Venting Ecoxotic 120 watt LED Pendants questions, with pics

Hello, I have 2 Ecoxotic 120 watt cannons that I use to supplement my 600 HPS. They are awesome lights with great par value, but they do run quite warm and I'm hoping to cool them. Does anyone know or have a opinion on venting them other then blowing a fan at them? I was contemplating placing 6" ducting over the body of the lights and adjoining them to my existing cool tube exhaust on the outgoing side of course. I'm not super familiar with the air circulation and heat requirements of LED lights and really want to make sure I'm not going to cause more harm then good. They currently run hotter to the touch then my 600HPS cool tube. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick reply Beast. I honestly don't know what that is, but assuming they will put out as much heat as they are designed for. Do you see a problem enclosing the whole body. So in essences I will be sucking the heat out through my ventilation system instead of it just filling my room.

That's basically a high bay LED for factories/work shops. Very common construction from what I see on their webpage, there's a lot of Chinese manufacturers building very similar things. These are directed at use over aquariums so there's probably a LOT more Blue within their spectrum than you need. I'd be interested to see these guys reach out more towards the horticulture market if their price point was right, but for the sake of answering your question:

There's a massive passive heat sink attached to the multichip LED. In fact, most of the "cannon" is actually the heat sink. Your idea of putting a piece of ducting around the heat sink and attaching that to your cool tube is a really good idea if you ask me. My only worry is that the LED will heat up the air before it gets to the extraction hood and cooling of the HPS bulb will suffer. It shouldn't be too much of an issue, though, HID loves to run hot anyways. As long as the tent stays where you want it to I think you'll be sitting pretty.

It might be easier to make a box, perhaps out of wood, that the LED cannon sits within. Intakes would be at the bottom near the collimator area (where the light will be coming out) and an adapter at the top for the 6" ducting. Just a thought.

Great info Bumping!!! Yes, they are made for aquarium use and the spectrum is pure actinic but figured since I had a few laying around what the hell. Ill try to vent it first with ducting and Tee it off on the outgoing side of HPS and try to put it almost to the roof as far as I can from the exit side of hid. If that does not help, I might reevaluate using the LEDs. Sounds like I might not be getting a very good spectrum for flowering growth, even if its just supplemental. Amazing the par these babies put out compared to the HID.
