whats better raised bed or in ground???

whats up ive had some successful indoor but this year id like to try outdoor.....got 3 plants they really good bag seed about 3 weeks topped em 3 days ago (Uncle Ben's Topping Method) they gettin good and ready to be put outdoors by next week(gotta harden em first of course) but got a question in mind.....is it better to dig a 2x2x3 hole and fill with some FFOF and transplant in that (which thats already what soil they in now) or build a raised bed 2x2x3 and fill with FFOF??? if in ground will the surrounding dirt help keep soil cool on hot summer days? dont want soil in raised bed to overheat when get 90 temps....live in ohio....

i would go straight into the ground..no root constraints, no worries about over or under watering, and you can plant em right down to your first node and build the dirt up to account for any stretch. you can get monsters outdoors in the ground..pound per plant easily if you have skills already...

Raised beds are beneficial in many ways over planting in hard, native soil in ground...but if you're digging a hole and adding quality soil there really is no difference

advice much appreciated.....yes was wonderin about root bound thats why suggestes such big raised bed....im doin a lil LST cant do it very long due to time restraints indoors this go round...... id def like to do better than my previous yields indoors (last years was 23g all tho was some damn good smoke IMO) thats why trying outdoor ill post few pics maybe later jus not all that exciting in this stage if know what i mean lol jus been topped total of 3 somehow one got stunted so jus went with the FIM on that one what ive done in past which has turned out great (first time doin uncle ben's method) so far i like his results so might jus wait and post pics right b-4 i put outdoors

ya i hear you all looks the same until it buds!...you will def beat out a zip outdoors since you have grown before...outdoors best thing ive found to do is plant them near some other weeds they will fight to stay top dog and you just intertwine them through the other crap and mound up dirt at the bottom cutting off the lowest branches and add some bone/blood meal to the dirt before you mound it around your main cola..kind of worked like a natural lst but the plants seemed to know it and fought hard to be the biggest...man i havent grown outdoors in a long time but the plants in a row growing nicely by themselves were dwarves compared to these two monster plants i had no room for so i just stuck in the weed edge..they were about as big as a half dollar easy at the dirt and seven feet tall just strewn throughout a weed patch lol...i did start them about 3 weeks before planting time but other than that they attained that size in a normal shorter growing season like you have

thanks i appreciate the advice outdoor is a whole new ballgame 4 me lol i jus put em out back in a completely shaded area 2 harden off havent found the perfect spot yet for final transplant but ill keep ur advice in mind abut mixin in with other weeds....ANOTHER QUESTION???...got em on 20/4 cycle when indoor should i bring em in at night or leave em out so they also get used to the natural light cycle? temps have been stayin in the low 50s overnight so as 4 now (& hope 4 good) staying away from frost...

Raised bed optimal,air pots or variation of air to roots is key. Probable cause for weed infested plants success,healthy living soil. The big boys ain't diggin holes look around.

the big boys aint diggin holes cause they are renting augers. ive seen a few yards where they have 400 gallon holes that were dug out. im doin holes and its kicking my ass lol

Raised beds are better for veggies and flowers which have shallow root systems, but a pot plants roots go deeper so a nice hole with your fox farm soil mixed in will be lovely for your plants. Happy growing!

^^ not true Cannabis roots go wide haven't seen them go that deep. Meaning more than 18 inches deep have seen them spread two feet wide. keepem green

i can say from what i have read its true.....their roots are more wide than deep thats why u see a hole like 4x4x2 or 3x3x2 more wide than deep

In ground, I start off in 5 gallon rootmaker pots then transplant into ground when ready. I dont use native soil, dig and fill with your own mix.

alrighty next question is do i bring em in at night and put back under my cfl's 2 keep them on the 20/4 cycle i got em on or jus leave em out and let em get used 2 the natural cycle...(temps have been stayin in 50s overnight so no risk of frost)

bring in until 60 at night or end of may if easy to do and add enuf light to get 17/7. they grow fast tho so raise ur cfls often will be needed

There are ways to do outdoor grows with both unbridled root growth AND good soil. a raised bed is one of them.

Since you are thinking of digging holes anyways you might as well do bottomless raised beds, dig the native soils out and backfill with premium soils. use 2x6 rough lumber and make simple 2x2 foot squares 2 boards (12~ inches) high. dig the bottoms out 2~ eet squared with the tops and you have a fairly large hole to backfill, leaving the lower walls open for penetration via the tap roots.

I'll be able to answer this question after this years harvest. I've got six holes in the ground 3 foot circles 2 feet deep filled with lots of great soil and amendments. I also have 100 gallon DYI smart pots that will be growing at the same time. I'm growing Cenex, Purple Lightning and Blue Magoo.
I read an intersting article put out by a university agriculture or horticulture professor who studied amending native soils..His conclusion was that digging a hole and filling it with amendments is no different than putting the amenments in the same size pot. The roots will seek out the soil that best feeds the plant, when the roots reach the native (unamended) soil it will begin to spiral just as in a pot.
However what wasn't address in the article was that "in ground holes" will help retain greater amounts of moisture and will also be cooler than raised beds or pots. So really the main differences are...Above ground..warmer root temps, more frequent watering needed. In ground holes amended...less frequent watering needed lower root temps.

this is what i had thought as well but have not expierenced raised beds or ground holes with cannabis but common sense would tell you that ground holes would help keep cool and hence less watering as well....thanks for advice glad see other people still do have common sense these days (not being sarcastic at all jus saying lol)
