This does depend on who these people are, A well known company with signatures and Rights with this friend won't defiantly not screw him over. Because they'd lose more money in the lawsuit than if they had just paid him. If he has the Rights to "His" Material, and he can prove that its his. That's the odds are in his favor.

But, if he just has some Shitty written rabble script, written in Crayon on Toilet Paper. And he sent this to a company trying to get hired. They'll call/pay if he has talent(Or relize that he just spent all his talent on this one piece, take it, and never call/pay him). If they don't like him, they'll wipe their ass with it.
