Lately I've been on a real fantasy book kick. I really really like things that are epic, colorful.. Send your mind in twisty turns... oajsnhoihngvins
Love it. I re-read these two Abarat books I have which I really liked a lot, and actually was introduced by one of you guys. Forget who it's been so long.
So whats your favorite fantasy book, or science fiction even? It doesn't have to exactly match my taste, of course I'll expand. But man, I really like the way books can make me think differently after its over. Or just get that epic sense you get when you walk out of a movie theater sometimes.

Anyways, it's been awhile, what's up guys! My keyboard was destroyed in rage. So I didn't have one for awhile xD Its been a few months since I've even really used my computer..

A series called the Dresden files by Jim butcher. It's about a wizard detective in modern day. It starts out sort of slow but by the fifth book harry Dresden is a certified badass. Highly recommend

If you like Stephen King stories, I can truly say that IMO, the Gunslinger series is Kings masterpiece. Epic is the right description for the set. It isn't a horror story, like most of his are. It's a fantasy quest similar in basic design to the Rings trillogy. I was blown away by it. Of course I liked SK's stuff before I got to the Gunslinger series. If you've read any or all of his stuff, You will like how he ties all the other stories into this series. I thought it was an expert example of intricate writing and as wierd as it might sound to some people, it did have an effect on how I view the Universe.

I read an interview with him where he said he didn't think he would ever let them try to make it into a movie because he didn't think it would be able to do the story justice.

If you decide to check it out, give it until the second book before you make up your mind. The first is fairly short so it's not a huge comitment.

Thank you for your recommendation of the series - I have a loved one incarcerated & I have been trying to locate good reading material. Damn place won't accept anything unless it's coming from a book seller so nothing from my collection can go. I tried sending "The chronicles of Conan" from Amazon but it seems to be tough to find & out of print. You mentioned the Gunslinger series I remembered reading the first one. Pretty hard to put down once you're hooked.
Thanks again.

I used to read ALOT. I probably have well over a thousand books. Mostly fantasy fiction and d&d oriented. Anymore there is only one author whose books I buy. R.A. Salvatore. Specifically the dark elf saga. He releases 1-2 books a year that follows the character whom I so enjoy. I believe there are close to twenty books in the series total. This is the first in the series.

If you liked the first, your pump is already primed for the rest then. I guarentee if you liked the first book in the series, you're going to be hooked on the rest. I amazes me that many people who like these kinds of stories haven't heard of this SK series. I suppose, it wasn't a movie so it didn't get the mainstream press so many of his other books got. It's also interesting to note that he wrote this series over 30 years. Starting almost right from the begining of his professional writing career.

Have you a minute to "Thumbnail" your chosen titles ?

Edit: I know I can google a review, but I would prefer to hear your take on them.
Would be happy to my friend.
I have an eclectic collection to choose from and most have blurred into a mental fog {or marijuana haze} which will require a mental reboot of sorts to get them straight, but I will do my best.

The Great and Secret Show: This is part one of a trilogy called the The Art Collection and this one is tricky to get right....through an ancient form of magic, a secret society has the power to enter a higher consciousness, described in the books as a sea or river, one that we humans experience naturally but only at three times in our lives, at birth, when we lie next to our true love and when we die. For one of the main characters this simply won't do, he wishes not only to be able to experience this more than once or twice but to seek control of it and the story follows his pursuit of this power....Trippy is one word I would use.

Weaveworld: With magic at it's base the story consists of a world that exists in the weaves of a rug, we humans have known about these beings and hunted them for centuries, we've called them faeries or demons instead of their true name, so they've hidden themselves away in a rug until the time is right. That all changes when I young man gains interest in the rug after learning of it's magical nature from the woman who's been entrusted with it's care, suffers a stroke revealing it's secret.

Fahrenheit 451: It's a classic for a reason, this is simply an amazing book. It's plot revolves around firemen who's job it is to burn books {the houses that they're in actually}, which in this future society are banned. It's about censorship and of a dystopian America, something Bradbury felt strongly about.

I hope this is what you were after.

Waked and Baked so....

Thanks Mojo - you do have a varied taste in reading material.
Last night I picked up (on Amazon) the Gunslinger series and Fahrenheit 451 & sent them to "jail".
I'm sure they will be well received.

I find with most fantasy/sci fi novels, you have to pick a genre that suits you, some people are more into orcs and elfs while some love to terraform a new planet and still others prefer a more tactile response with the vampire/werewolf escape. There are so many different "clothes" one can wear when reading it really depends on the reader themselves to choose which character they want to become.

As a youngster I began reading the Conan series. I picked them up as the small paperbacks in the grocery store one at a time.
Howard's writing mesmerized me with monsters, dragons, wizards and of course sword play. They were truly worth the grass cutting coin I spent on them.
