leaving town curing issue

So, I have a question amazing right? Anyways. My grandad passed yesterday and I'll be leaving back home (1k miles) for the funeral. I just harvested my plant yesterday, she should have enough time to get a decent dry, but my issue is the cure. I really don't want to leave my good hard work with a relative because they are fiends and it will be gone by time I get back. Any ideas on how I can have it cure unattended while I'm gone but not mold. I was thinking of leaving the mason jars partially open inside the tent.

How long do you figure to be out of town? It will take a few days for your stuff to dry before you have to begin the cure. Usually about a week or so depending on the drying method and plant size. Sorry to hear of your gramps' passing.

I've done it enough to know how it's done. Was just wanting some ideas on how I could cure it without being around seeing as how I've never done that before. Will be gone for about two weeks.

You can airtight them in bags an freeze them....(Not Recommended)


You can do the hole in the jars..... (Your method)


Me... Personally.... I'd let them sit intill I got back... As long as the humidity is normal, what you're looking for is a VERY slow dry. Keep air movement minimum, so they don't get crispy...


Atleast with my method, there is no risk.. Unless for some reason you hate smoking the crisp... Even then, you can try an put moister back in the Bud...

Have you considered the 62% humidipaks?

Seems like that would be good, but I don't think you can really use them until after you dry and start the actual cure.

yeah i'd just probably say let them dry until you get back. they should be fine, but if they're too crispy when you return just cure them with a freshly cut leaf from a vegging plant. has worked wonders for overly dried buds before in my experience. remember overly dry isn't as bad as starting to cure wet buds, especially if you're not there to monitor hay smell/mold

a small wooden box, homeade humidor type thing is what i use to dry for 2 weeks or so then i jar em too cure..seems that would be perfect

I would have to agree that I would rather have crispy buds instead of moldy ones. There really arent any options if you have nobody you trust to burp the jars. I want to make a curing container that is something like set it and forget it. You know, like an automated tupperware that opens the lid for an hour a day or something like that. That would be too cool. I have had to dry plants while I was out of town before. I just let them hang. even though they were crispified, I rehydrated the nugs and they were fine. I use moistened q-tips in the curing jar/container

They're already in jars curing, i'll burp them as much I can before leaving. I'm just going to leave the lids part of the way off, high humidity really isn't an issue here thankfully.

the quick cure hangable drying racks work very well, too. i scored one for about 40 bucks at my local grow store!

Basically what you're asking is for a mechanical burp.

I have an idea. Put the buds in a tupperware container with the lid on loosely. Mount a vacuum wand a centimeter above the loosel lid. Put the vacuum on a timer for 15 minutes twice a day.

The vacuum goes on and the suction from the wand lifts the lid up and holds it for 15 minutes, thus burping the container. When the vacuum goes off the lid falls back down.

That's all I've got.

That is actually an amazingly good idea, but I don't have a shop vac

I let the bud get dry enough to where I believe they can stay in the jars with the lid partially open and be ok.

i think paper bags inside plastic bags would be best. this would have the paper kind of suck out moisture while still keeping it in.

Look into the boveda humi packs (62% rh).

they are not only for keeping nugs at their optimal rh but you can also throw your uncured nugs in and it will get them down and keep them at 62%

Really sorry bout ur granpa! i have a way that i used with a previous harvest and it worked fine! make a very very small hole in the jar. another hole just big enough for the pump's air tube! drop the tube in and set ur timer twice for 10 min a day! this will pumps some fresh air and help mold not to build up! i made u a small draw to explain it better! GOOD LUCK BRO!

P.S cover the outlet hole with a layer of paper towel to stabilize humidity while the pump is not working! plug and let it cuuuure alone i will post another thread in the forum!
