Vanilla Kush - First grow

Whats up man,they look nice to me! As for it being an auto flowering ,from what i gather they begin to flower on their own....im sure you could force them .only advice i would have is to make sure you have enough room .like say in a situation where they get so tall and you have any room left to move the light up any higher thatd suck.

Cool Unfortunately I know no one who grows so everything I know comes from my readings here and elsewhere, but sometimes comparing your plants with others is just useless, as we're all using different set ups. I don't want really tall plants anyway, but I think I'll wait for them to be half the height I wanna get, there isn't a limit to how long veg can be, is there?

I've never met another grower, so I learned everything I know from this forum and trial and error. If you have autoflowering plants (why did you get those seeds, anyway?) there's certainly a limit to the length of the veg period because they will start to flower automatically. Remember that they will stretch to at least twice the height when you flip to 12/12, maybe even 3 times the height. I cut 7-8 inch clones and they go into flower as soon as they are rooted with no veg time, and they get to at least 18 inches in final height. I heard you can't clone autoflowers, don't know if that's true...

I see. Cool. If you get the feminized seeds you can control the height, clone, and grow her perpetually. You're definitely correct about the flowering time and potential THC percentage, its a wicked strong smoke with delicious vanilla and citrus notes in it. A little will energize you, but a big bowl with stick you to your couch It was the Cannabis Cup winner in 2009, can't wait for month's end to chop them down!

My friends, bad news.
I approached my grow tent to check on my babies and I saw something I wasn't expecting at all. My new CFL was too heavy and fell down, falling on one of my two babies, killing it.
It's with a weird mix of feelings that I write this, I feel both really sad and somehow guilty but I'm guessing this is one of those mistakes that help you learn and change for the future. I still have one plant, which fortunately is the biggest one I had, so I'm planning to anticipate the flowering stage to this week.
I'm going to bed now, I'll probably spend a tears or two thinking about the days of job I have just destroyed

I can take a couple rips from the bong in the morning and lasts a long time...if i'm deprived of food and i smoke a couple rips i basically feel like i wanna eat the house bare haha. I found it will just fry my brain and make me pretty useless/couch locked ya if i smoke too much. Great shit! The QWET and BHO i've made from it have been pretty bomb also!

Understandable man...i had the exact same thing happen to me. The room warmed up, the tape that was holding my rope got gooey and just eventually over time came undone, the light broke all over the plant and in the pot snapping the stem about half way up. I quickly took as many clones from the plant as i could and scrapped the rest, but was fortunate to be able to do so. Everything i hang these days will not fall, lesson learned.

Check 'em out...sorry for turning camera sideways at the end. LCOG was a wee bit on the dry side if you don't notice the slightly lazy leaves. Was fairly medicated while shooting...been so busy lately i just said fuck it good enough, no time to edit.

Well, I wasn't particularly lucky, so my lamp broke too, I should have a new back by tomorrow. But I'm still being positive.
This is my only survivor, she's starting having some sick-ish looking leaves since last night, is it possible they were damaged by the light too, or is this something completely different?

Ouch! So sorry to hear it man, we've ALL been there. Hate to say it, but you'll probably kill a few more girls in your career. It's just part of this hobby. I've killed so many girls in so many different ways in my learning curve, hurts less when you have 100+ plants than just two Never take it too hard, just take it in stride. Remember, this is supposed to be fun, don't let anything ruin that. You'll learn to never cut corners when it comes to your babies, and you'll be able to spot potential problems before they happen. The other plant's funky leaves are probably from the cfls being too close on the crushed plant, hope it corrects itself. Onward and upward!

At the end of the day, I bought everything I needed to grow a few plants for myself, so I won't have any other expense in the future set up wise. It's just a matter of time and let's hope my second plant wants to live and make me happy

I'll keep you all posted on my plant, I'll switch to 12/12 soon (seen this one was the tallest one and is nearly half of its supposedly final height)

Looking pretty good for 4 weeks from seed with CFLs. I started out growing Vanilla Kush exclusively in dwc, and I just loved it. In the last few years I've switched to F&D sog with perlite in 6in square pots and started growing NL&BB, OG Kush, NY-47 and Trainwreck (my favorite). After my room was completely dialed in and had all the custies I needed, I missed my Vanilla Kush! In February I remember I had 5 VK feminized seeds left in the Barney's Farm package, so I popped 3 seeds and I'm growing them as moms to see which pheno I like best. One mom is a total indica pheno, one is a nice indica/sativa mix and one looks almost pure sativa and grows TALL. I'll have a few VK girls of all 3 phenos ready to chop at month's end, can't wait to see which one will be the winner. At that point, I'll probably just keep the winning pheno and replace the other 2 moms with her. I'll try to remember this thread to post some pics if you like, good luck with your girls...

Im a little confused on the whole pheno thing. I have always thought that particular strains carry particular phenol types, but reading your post makes me think that any strain can be indica, sativa, or a mixture of the two.. I.E. your Vanilla Kush

If anyone can elaborate on this for me that would be awesome.

not ,think of phenos like humans. If a couple have a kid , the kid will inherit certain features of a certain parent.. it could have a mix of both parents features, or look really like dad ,or mom. ..and even granddad or great granddad .

so with weed its the same. If you have a hybrid ,sativa and indica.. it's seeds could produce an almost pure sativa like mom or dad, or indica .. or be a nice mix. Northern lights for instance is an indica and thought of as a pure indica, but it has sativa in it's distant roots ,so now and then growers will get a rare sativa pheno.

But generaly 2 indicas will not produce a sativa pheno or vice versa. Its not just about indica or sativa, it could be a mix of smells or looks or cannabinoid profiles... just like mom and dads eyes ,nose etc for humans..

The two plants always grew in a different way, the one that got destroyed last night was shorter but bushier, while the one that survived is, as you can see, taller and with fewer but longer leaves. I thought they might have grown in two different directions and would have been nice to see the final results, too bad :-S

Hey Puff, what`s up man, in for some VK too eh, haha. Great way to describe phenos, I was going to sum it up by just saying that a phenotype just means a prodominate trait-type, so in essence, you`ll have a Short pheno (where others are tall), or a Berry pheno (where others are minty). Each trait will be present in the parent plants, or are in the lineage of the parents, hence why some phenos are kept because of `rarity` of these specific traits (think OG18, Chem4, Pre-98 Bubba, just to name a few).

Your one left will be a beast RTF, I can feel it buddy. You`ve got some capable people here to help you along if need be as well . Keep it green,
