i would say top it and start with cfls because instead of making your plant groww only up to the light you can add side lighting and make it grow nice and fat

harsh gangja, the grow faq would help you a ton and i think you should read a lot more on the web as for your ? 12-18 in is good because your plant will double to triple in size

Low Stress Training (LST) techniques are great for making short bushes.

It's possible to start the flowering light cycle from day one. I'm not fully aware of all the advantages and disadvantages of that method but some folks do it that way. Pretty much you can begin to flower whenever you choose although more veg generally = more yield (as long as you've got the space and the light).

Top your plants and keep the light as close as u can without burning the leaves that way they dont stretch for the light.
