Is Fem worth the extra money?

i think its pretty straight forward if you want to breed/experiment then it has to be regs, but if you just want a crop for whatever reason then fems is the only way all depends what you are growing for
I breed experiment with nothing but fems...

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with fem seeds and if you have limited space and don't stress the hell out of your plants you shouldn't run into any problems with them. So yes in that aspect they are worth it. Now if you want to just buy seeds once and take clones, i personally would go with reg seeds and find a really killer pheno and just clone that girl for your needs. Makes vegging and flipping that much quicker. Plus you have the added bonus of really stable genetics without having to worry about hermies unless the strain is just prone to herm in the first place. Now if you're just looking to do a nice simple grow from seed to smoking the weed without any problems of growing a male plant and being dissapointed about throwing out a good plant, then yeah fem seeds rock. They do have some herm tendencies though, just get seeds from a reputable breeder that has been making fem seeds for a while. I have only personally had 4-5 plants ever herm on me, and I've grown a shit ton of fem seeds because of my space restrictions. I would have to say that 2 of those were probably my fault because of excessive stress from training and a heat issue at the time. For the most part though as long as you go through a good breeder with an outstanding reputation with FEM seeds you shouldn't have much of a problem. So in summary yes I think fem seeds are worth the $, and if you shop around they're not much more really than reg seeds. There are many breeders that just deal with fem seeds and that's all they do. A lot of people will tell you those are the ones to avoid, but they are usually the ones who have the methods down and have the best fem rates. There are different ways of getting fem seeds and some breeders do it the easy way and others do it the correct way, like I said shop around and look at strain and breeder reviews before buying. All the best on your search and decision bro. Good luck, good grow, Be safe, :peace: out.

you need a male to breed unless you have a hermi so regular seeds would be best for that like i said

You can make a female plant from a feminized seed produce male pollen. The resulting seeds will be feminized. I use colloidal silver.
It is easy. I have done it and I am not very bright.

gardening skills tend to herm plants not feminized seeds.

Feminised seeds are good if you have limited space. There are those that have moral issues with feminised seeds though. They say that it's messing up the gene pool.
Those people are ignorant and do not know what they are talking about.
Even if feminized seeds were bad, they could not do anything to the gene pool which is made up of every cannabis plant on the planet.
Feminized seeds do not mess up anything.

There have been feminised plants make their way into the fields of India and are spreading which I guess are pollinating landrace strains which isn't good at all.
That does not make any sense. There is no feminized gene. If you grow a plant from a feminized seed, you get a female cannabis plant.
Landrace varieties can be pollinated by plants from far away if the conditions are right. There is no way we can hurt the cannabis gene pool.

If you want to make your own femmed seeds it's quite simple. All you need is a couple of 100% straight females and spray colloidal silver onto a couple of young buds on one of the plants leaving the other plant completely untouched.
That won't work. You do not spray buds. You want to spray well before buds show.

Here is a link to an auto seed crop I did. I did not journal any of my photo seed crops. It works the same, basically.
https://www.rollitup.org/auto-flowering-strains/548016-auto-feminized-seed-crop.html

The bud will be unsmokeable but it will force it to make male pollen sacks, and because the pollen that comes from this is from a female plant when you dust it onto your other 100% female the seeds will be feminised. You need two females because you can't dust the plant with it's own pollen. Well you can but it don't work apparently. If you were to do this and have your own stock from it there's no moral dilemma as it's your own and you're not contaminating any natural stock out in the wild :)

"Contaminating any natural stock out in the wild" is not a concern at all.

read my post properly before you criticise
please accept my most humble appologies as it was not my intent to offend but rather post information on how you can make your own feminized seeds.
If I have caused you any offence, then I am deeply sorry.

Read my post again. You are trying to give advice about something you do not understand. Why?
You can produce female seeds, then use colloidal silver to force a female plant to produce male flowers and pollen.
So you do not need a real male to breed or produce seeds.

The "hermie" you are talking about is not a real hermaphrodite. It is a female that has been forced to produce male flowers. All female cannabis plants have the ability to produce male flowers. It is a normal and natural survival mechanism.

A real hermaphrodite has both an X and a Y chromosome. It will produce male and female flowers together. Seeds from real hermaphrodites will produce males, females and hermaphrodites. Seeds from a female that has been forced to produce male flowers will produce female plants.

You should understand what you are trying to give advice about.

This is 2013. All this feminized "hermie" junk was put to bed years ago. I find it amazing that people still give advice based on misinformation.

That is not true. If the parents of a feminized seed are likely to produce male flowers, then the offspring will be just as likely.
All female cannabis plants have the ability to produce male flowers. Stop giving advice about something you do not understand.

To the best of my knowledge this information is correct.

When you've been on RIU long enough you will see the same discussions. It can get frustrating when you are having a bad day. But thanks for repeating. Now lets talk about flushing... Just kidding, lets not.

A feminized can not produce a real "hermie" as it does not have a Y chromosome.

I would say that 4 of them were your fault.

I have made thousands of feminized seeds. So far, no males and no "hermies." I do not expect to see any, ever.

It is very easy to make your own feminized seeds.

Feminized seeds all the way...no hassles/problems with feminized seeds I have bought or made myself. "Trousers" is 100% spot on with his knowledge of feminized seeds.

Just because I don't have a bunch of green dots by by name doesn't mean I haven't been doing this longer than you. Believe what you want, you're obviously a cannabis professional, and the rest should just ask you questions and do as you do. I'm sure you have figured it out perfectly in a small time what took professional horticulturalists decades right.

B.T.W. real respectful attacking someone just passing info from personal experience. I said fem seeds are fine and the herms I had were proly my fault. People on her can be real dicks sometimes, especially when they think they are better than they really are. :peace: out.

You said that feminized seeds are more likely to "hermie."
That is bullshit.

Bad advice is bad advice no matter how long you have been growing.
