Germing seed cracked but no root growing

I germenated two seeds. First I put them into water for a few hours then decided to paper towel it. I put them between two damp paper towels and the next day I noticed a little crack in both the seeds. I found a heating pad and put that under them on low because I heard that warmth helped. I don't know if it was the heating pad or just the extra day but one of the seeds grew a big ass root by the next day so I planted that one. It's been another day and I see no growth from the other seed. Basically it's cracked, but no root will grow. Is it a dud or should I give it some more time?

I had 4 duds out of 10 that popped. let them sit for a day or two. normally you put the seeds/paper towel in a sandwich bag to create a humid atmosphere, or a Tupperware container.

Oh yeah I forgot to say I have them in between 2 plates, seems to stay pretty humid in there.

If nothing happens in 4 to 6 days its a dud unfortunately. Germinating any longer than that may rot the seedling.Germination in most cases should be quick.

The heating pad may have been a bad idea. If you want to place a germination mat under the seeds that is ok as long as you have a control unit that allows you to keep the heat at an acceptable level. I have murdered beans in the past with a germ mat that was too warm.

When I think I have a dud I just throw it in on the side a planter of one of my others going. I have had a couple duds completely surprise me like a week later.

Just because you think they are dudes doesn't mean they won't grow had the samwe thing happen with a few of mine but noticed too late and conditions were poor and it died a sprout

I put it on low and it's got a few layers of towel on it so it doesn't get very hot just warm. Noted though, I'll get a germination mat later maybe.

no offense if i contradict anyone here but in my experience u should just bin it... slow seeds = slow growers and more often than not small yielders. Personally i only keep the strongest seeds cause i only grow 2-3 plants at a time in case the old bill come a knockin. those little bugger slow starters never keep up to the fast ones - oh and u didn't f up cause the other one germinated!
