Few questions for this baby plant in a solo cup

Hey everyone,

I attached a picture of a lil baby plant i got started in my window sill in a solo cup and i just have a couple questions.

1. Is it ok to move a plant that has sprouted and been grown in the sun to an indoor lighting sett up? 18 on 6 off with 400w?
Cuz thats my plan after transporting.

2. when it is good to transport from the red solo to a planter? im aware you can go full cycle in the solo if you want like a ft tall plant but im
going to transport to a 3-5 gallon. i was thinking 3rd-4th node but wanted 2nd thoughts.

3. if i go from regular soil to purchased soil when i transport will that shock the plant?

Thanks in advance for any help.

When it is dry, check the roots from time to time. Once you see them established around the bottom and sides of the cup, time to repot.

You should be fine with soil and moving under lights so far as I know. But not sure what you mean by regular and purchased. Be careful not to give them something overly nuteful :-0

FWIW, in the future I would use something with perlite in it for the solo cup. I use MG seed starter and add extra perlite at about 25% for mine while in the cups. But no MG once I transplant.

cool thanks. and i mean regular as literally taken from my garden with a shovel and put into pot. and purchased by buying from a grow shop/home depot or something.
so i should by perlite and use that primarily for the older plants? ive always done outdoor with natural soil so im just learning indoor. also, u know of a good Seed website? i found a canada one that will ship US but kinda pricey

I used attitude recently for seeds and they had a decent deal. I bought 5 seeds and they give you some extra goodies like 5 more mixed seeds (all Fem). Yep seeds aren't cheap but you want to make sure you get them for a reputable place that has good genetics. I usually add additional perlite to my soil to ensure good drainage. I use fox farms ocean forest soil and it does contain nutes and they say it is a hot soil. Meaning no need to feed for a few weeks (3-4) after transplanting. Personally I wouldn't put her under the 400 just yet. Kind of a waste of light in my opinion. Go for another week or so with a cfl (or two) and save some energy. If you do use your 400 for that little guy make sure the light is a few feet away to start. Once that little guy is about as wide and tall as that cup she will be ready to transplant and will def. benefit from some good soil. Make sure you have a fan on her as well to help build stem strength. Another thing you can do is bury the stem if she stretches when you transplant. Another thing with the soil I wouldn't recommend time released miracle grow...good luck!

i start em off with all the light i can give, nature does and nothing gets harmed. transplant when you see roots out the drainholes in your cup it doesnt harm if you do it before but the roots wont be holding all the dirt in place and will be messy, also risks tearing roots. i prefer miracle grow ph balanced african violet, the organic doesnt have nute balls if for some reason you have something against balls.. feed with mg bloom booster once those round leaves start to yellow... start with low dose then work up to half strength on bottle....mg nutes dont contain magnesium you will need cal/mag. also equal parts dirt and perlite is perfect, unless outdoors the top will dry to fast..peace

ive never used coco but equal parts perlite and dirt mixed works good, so does straight perlite. miracle grow african violet has nute balls and lime to balance, the organic has no balls or lime. ive used the african violet for about a decade with good results. i use the miracle grow bloom booster as the fertilizer even in veg through flower.

I make a mix of approx 20% cheap potting soil (one that doesn't mention added nutes), 30% peat moss, 25% vermiculite, 25% perlite (not MG that has nutes in it). Then I add 2T of lime for every gallon of the mix. For nutes I am using Dyna-Gro. Not saying itis perfect and this is only my third grow, but plants are doing great. I PH all my water/feed to 6.5 and use my nutes every other watering. I water every third day. Soil PH accd to my cheapo meter is in the upper 6 area. So all in all, I think it is working well.

thanks for totally breaking it down sir, that helps. im not good with the PH shit yet as this is my first controlled indoor grow. ive had alot of
success outdoors but out there the soil is less important as the sun gives alot of the nutrients.

Vitamin D haha idk man i just figured becuase literally i never had a problem i had like 4-5 plant harvests for 3 yrs outdoors never had a plant just
die out of no where out of cal defiency or anything. the first like 6 i started indoor went from seemingly healthy to dying out of no where.
and i posted pics here and the consensus was some sort of defiency so i figure the sun def gives something these lights dont u know?

PH... soil... Unless your water is either very high ph, or extremely low, with soil it is the great buffer.... I get a city report on the PH of my water…. It’s fine…
I have never PH’ed my water, run off, ever… Once you know what it is, constantly checking PH of soil, IMO, is a waste of time… Now, I believe you should be able to waste your time however you want…. So check your PH… if you must… it’s good practice if you ever start growing Hydro…
Good Luck !

See this run off stuff and PH i havent mastered yet, but soon i am getting tent and buying a 30-60 pack of feminized seeds and
will really start studying up, in the mean time this decent seed from some stuff i bought a while back is doing pretty good in the window,
i believe this is day 5 or 6 but is green as can be, im thinking maybe day 15 ish for transplant i just hope the transplant and
lamp opposed to sun dont stunt the growth or the health.

Picture for progress (3rd node just coming out)
