DWC...? about amount of air

hello


ok it is build or buy .......no matter what i do i know the system they give will still be on the minal side of air bubbles

what amount of air do i want in a pump 1 gallon a min 3 quarts ...or more less

second i heard if i go stones i should do 2 has anyone tried the disc in a single DWC

right now i am looking at a 3.5 gallon system .....to start and learn on (i am going to modify it with a drain hose/waterlvl )

Eco air 1 plus with one of their air stones will do more then you need. Don't bother getting crazy with the stones, bubbles are bubbles but they won't break down as fast as the blue ones. You'll have 100% DO in about 10 min. Nothing to special..

The Top fin air pumps from petsmart are beastly and a good price. Either get the one with dual outlets per 3-5gallon water tank, or the beastly one with 4 outlets and do 2 per tank. The ones with 4 outlets are a better price if you have more than 1 DWC bucket/tank because then you can get 1 for every 2 tanks.

1 of the 4 outlet ones is actually cheaper than 2 of the aqua brand ones with 2 outlets from walmart, which is inferior to the 2 outlet one from topfin.

Whatever you do, don't get those green paperlike airstones that have the plastic endcaps... Those are terrible!! Make sure there's actually something stonelike about it. Again, I like the topfin ones from the same store, but the walmart ones (blue) are also good.

The more air, the better!!!!!!

I own about 25 of those 8" round aluminum oxide airstones. THEY ARE FAR AND AWAY THE BEST AIR STONES MONEY CAN BUY. I've had them for about five years and they pair very well with the Danner Pondmaster AP-100 ( this pump will run 12 of them at 75% of their rated .71 cfm output ). Just remember not to peel off the rigid rectangular label affixed to the bottom. It keeps the underside of it from cracking in the event that you run too much air through one stone. As long as that sticker stays there (water will not make it peel off) it will not ever break. They are ridiculously simple to clean ( a dilute acid bath, 20:1 water/muriatic soak for 6 hours works for me) and will stir up a bin to a rolling "boil". Also, you should know that of all the round blue air discs only this particular 8" round stone is made from aluminum oxide. It is only this particular size that is most used in fish farms because of its reliability. Here's another tip. If you are looking to run 10 or more of these , save yourself the time of doing the research on which air pump to use. I spent an inordinate amount of time to come to the conclusion that there is no better air pump than the Danner Pondmaster AP-100. You will want to buy at least 1/2 a foot of weighted tubing (3/8") as a non-kinkable elbow connection to the barb port of the stone. Then changeover to 1/2" pvc sch.40 as a vertical stem. Connect that stem to a 1/2" pvc ball valve (each stone must be valved down to the desired amount of bubbling) and then try to changeover to a 3/4" main air line coming from the pump. I'm going to yell a little right now so forgive me THIS AIRSTONE USED PROPERLY WILL PRECLUDE THE NEED FOR MICROBE TEA, YOU WILL HAVE ZERO CHANCE OF ROOT ROT AND I DON'T CARE HOW WARM YOUR RESERVOIR IS. This stone/air-pump combo is one of the three major reasons I am successful with hydroponics. There is no better airstone. I don't care what anybody says. I stake my reputation on that .
