Where is the taken from?
High Times magazine, article is by Mel Frank. (edit: I see Kite just posted answer self already). Thanks KH, for pointing it out. "Very few - if any - with color" is what I refer to as the US way. Most hobby/small growers here in NL religiously harvest at 20-30 % amber and consider me foolish/crazy for harvesting earlier - is 'not done'. Based on that article it seems that's a left-over from growing outdoors (how netherweed started). 6 more weeks and I'll have it tested, "very few - if any - with color" works for me (I like to max that 'high' effect and minimize the 'stoned' effect).

I won't copy and paste the page because it's in Dutch, but I got an 26-year old grow guide, written by the people that created the first coffeeshop, growshop in NL and the Skunk strain, in front of me that says:

"A plant harvested too late does give maximum yield, but the effect will be heavy and stoned instead of clear and high. The taste is also less 'fresh' en 'light'.

"When flowering is at peak, new pistils will be created 'daily'. When flowering slows down the tips of the pistils start becoming brown (read: amber).

"When the tip of the pistils are 1/3 amber and that process occurred over a 1/3 of the buds, the plant is ready to harvest".

This somehow here turned into "harvest when 1/3 of trics are amber." :wall:

Nice once. I appreciate you sharing that. Made me think of 'Doe Maar' too which is always good. "Nederwiet - wiedewiedewiet" :-)

Like I say, the magazine article works for me. Sounds like its based on more well thought out logic. Great to get a decent account of how the 'amber myth' developed - having pushed my last Sugar Punch as far as possible, I feel I have seen for myself the increasing yield potential, and the greater stone effect as a consequence. I'm going back to harvesting a little earlier now, not yielding quite so much, but getting that rushy quality to the high I love so much. That article supports my decision nicely.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Bigby again". I still listen to it at least once a week, part of my stoner's playlist.

The book I translated those sentences from - should have mentioned that specifically - is like the song also about 'outdoor' growing. I messed up my last post. In the last sentence I obviously meant trics, not pistils  :eyesmoke:

Anyway, I've always thought of it like feeling the wind direction with a wet finger, the old farmer's way. By the time you got some amber you can assume it won't create new trics at a rate faster than the older ones degrade and it peaked (already). Effect-wise it seems more pleasant just before or at it's peak.

Exactly. Couldn't have put it better myself. :-)

(and I just listened to Doe Maar on my headphones whilst walking to the shop :-D )

There is a very slight dark chocolate smell to my kolossus actually. First time I would ever have ascribed that smell to weed, but it's there for sure.

Check out how sexy Big Bushy's buds look at day 56 of 12/12. Smelling like pure perfume - floral berry/pineapple with a chemical solvent banana.

I staked up a few of the lower branches. Also snipped off some of the popcorn stems that were failing to support themselves - I look forward to tasting them in about 5 days when I harvest.

5 days of smoking Q-Bert ground up in my crystal collector grinder has provided me with some of the strongest, trippiest herb I've smoked in my life - as well as .7g of quality sativa dominant blonde hash that I pressed today. With a 2 pence piece for scale. I compressed it in tin foil, split it, put both pieces together again in the foil, heated slightly with a lighter, then compressed again, then put the foil parcel in the freezer. When I took it out of the freezer I split it again, compressed both pieces together, heated slightly in foil, compressed again, then put back in the freezer. I repeated this process twice more. Really happy with how it looks. I'm going to save these for times of drought or medical need as the herb is medical quality itself (even missing those crystals). Will try and save enough crystals next time to start making 1g chunks of "Bigby's Bubbly Sugar hash" :-D

It sure is! I think if I put the entire 15g per week (approx) that I smoke through that grinder I should yield a gram of pure hash each week. I plan to save them up. :-)

Visuals for sure. Peripheral vision movement takes on form and substance (until you focus on it and realise either nothing was there or it is something totally different to what your imagination created). If I hit about .5g through my bong and then go out for a walk everything takes on a bright quality. The stoniness relaxes me enough to just chill into the full blown perspective skews. The colours in video games are significantly enhanced, meaning I can spot things after hitting a bowl I was missing whilst straight.

I suppose most of the trippiness is in thought processes though. I think metaphorically anyway, but this strain gets me speaking poetically. Can completely turn around negative emotionality as the humour can be immediately be found in every situation. Its the only thing that highlights I'm on something most of the time actually. You suddenly realise you've just said something 'crazy' to someone very straight. This could easily lead to paranoia, I just get the giggles - maybe even explain the thought processes leading to why I said what I said, hopefully make them laugh, act as ambassador for cannabis. lol

I'm gonna hit a .5g now actually and head out into town. I will report back on trippiness when I return. :-)

Oh and I will add, that at those doses, the rushy trippiness last for about 30 mins for me. It is then replaced by a heavy stone that lasts and lasts. I tend to only enhance the stone as I consume more - unless I straighten up between hits, in which case I get the rushiness again.

Ha ha - that was fun. Just got back. One genuinely trippy moment. I was walking along, dreamily tripping out, and noticed my shadow against the wall take on an exaggerated form and turn into 'The Dude' from Big Lebowski in that scene where he's walking all laid back and rolling hard. Made me properly giggle as I watched it. Not much else other than being very chilled in spite of the Saturday crowds, and loving the feeling of the sun. Still nicely stoned now - with killer munchies, you must excuse me, I have to cook these sausages! :-)

Harvest day for Big Bushy today. Gonna take a good few hours. I already smoked the tester buds and they are so tasty. I'll post some pictures before I start chopping. :-)
