I do have experience and statistics on both and will share this info. I work for Health Canada, and many people may know that we have changed our rules and the law about home growing. People may not believe we do it to protect our citizens, but it is the accurate truth. From that we have asked potential licensing growers to submit indoor testing results. The current summary of test results is as follows:
a.) Recommendations: DiamondBrites from Greenlamp Canada : our dry weight results on species show 15.8% increased weight per watt drawn. THC percentage is a separate study which has factors of nutrient supplementation as variables, thus THC% is not published.
b.) Blackstar: modest results with dry weight yield 17% less than DiamondBrites.
c.) CStorm and Magnum lights 22% less yield dry weight yield than DiamondBrites or Blackstar.
d.) Generic units and Flat Panels: Significantly inferior: 65% less dry weight yield.
In these initial studies, growing rooms were segmented into brand types (including HPS and MH and CFL room baselines). Plant numbers were equal in each room. Soil and nutrients were equalized to all rooms, lighting schedule equalized in all rooms.
