Yep, sounds like a big ass waste of time to me.

And when they get popped and mom loses their house, wonder if this kid is even going to care, other than needing to find a new place to live.

I am 22 years old so I am not under age, I just have people in my apartment living with me who don't approve of it. They have some weird vendetta against it or something. I am going to try to grow White shark :D So its nice to know that the smell is limited. I am looking into one of those tents but they are really expensive. I also see people growing in their pc and walmart bins. Makes me wonder how big they actually grow because the space is so limited. I am doing this for personal use so it isn't really that bad I just want to have some medium yields really. Not to amazing but not too bad either.

I might use HPS but that all depends on the space really, I am thinking more along the route of CFL. What soil would be the best to use while growing?? I rather stick to low a budget as possible but if I need to spend 1k then thats what I will have to do.

Have fun when you trim it!!! It's going to stink.
Such a bad idea, I hope you have a lawyer on retainer becuase when you do get popped you will need one.

Yep, nothing but bad is going to come out of this. I hope they update regularly so we can watch the trainwreck.

Its going to smell... Nd of story, and when you want to b cheap, you get cheap in return. This is a type of thing where whatever you put in it, comes back within the first grow.. Your number one problem is space and ventilation you got no clue what light or anything.. You need to read up.

Wile you say your 22 you sound like a kid. I'm only 19 but my parents approve and actually comsume what I do that's why they let me. If your indeed living at home and they don't approve don't do it man it's gonna bite u in the ass specially when you try to do it without a carbon filter and fan....

i found a 4x4 tent on eBay for only 114 bucks shipped to your door... That isn't expensive and if it is... Continue to move on.

i suggest a minimum of 1k to start a operation

-400w hps is what 120 I paid for mine from hg
-6 inch cooltube I paid 70 from htg
-6 inch inline fan and filter I paid 180 for
-rope ratchets -10
-ducting -25
-air conditioner for the room is needed I got a 10k for 250
-thermometer -15
-nutrients -50 or so
-soil-25 depends what u get
-perlite-10
-party cups for seedlings- 5
-pots for beginning bigger ones for end- 35
curing jars-10
-caliber 3 hydrometers 20 each, 1 for each curing jar
- extra bulbs case one blows -40

that there is about 1k and there is more i forgot to mention... Ph meter microscope etc

my first grow made me 1k in cash if I was to buy what I yielded

Thanks fir3dragon for the information, I am reading up on all the lights, soil, and what not but everyone uses something different. I made the post to see what would be better for my situation. I don't plan on getting busted but if I do well I guess I will deal with it when that comes. Once I do start I don't think I will continue to update because I don't like that thought of people getting their jollies out of me failing. I was hoping this post would help me learn.

People are always going to tell you it's a terrible idea... you are taking a lot of risks, but I chose to overlook that because I feel the benefits outweigh the negatives. I was in the same situation as you... could rarely find good bud, and when I did, it was usually sativa heavy which I'm not a huge fan of. I also don't trust the growing/curing techniques of some of my friends that sell... I much prefer having control myself.

Are you sure you can't cut a hole in the cabinet you have? If not, you will need to find one that you can. You may be able to remove the back panel of the cabinet entirely, which is what I did. Then I was able to buy thin particle board that I could easily cut holes into with a jigsaw. Unfortunately I can't find my cameras memory card atm, but here's a picture of my cab when it was a WIP...

growcabwip.jpg

You can see the big missing panel in the back which made adding intake/exhaust much easier. Also, not sure if you can see but the plant is sitting on a shelf. I hammered pairs of nails on either side in 1 in increments so that I can move the shelf up or down depending on the height of the plant, rather than moving the lights closer. The lights at the top can move in any direction, and the supplemental big 55 watt cfl's I can move to where ever I think she needs it.

It is the newbie section, so any experienced growers here seeking entertainment out of 1st grows have a somewhat mediocre lifestyle to begin with, whether you keep it updated or not, the forums can be the greatest resource to find other questions/answers/topics covering same subjects, soil isn't going to make or break your discreet grow, as mentioned your other issues are more prevalent like lighting and ventilation, nutrients and all teh things you have to buy for a grow, going at it half assed will get you a half assed plant, speaking from experience. Everybody has a 1st grow, I'm sure all the growers who have journals put on their big boy pants and worked 40 hours a week for a place to live and grow or whatever, and yielded 200 zips a plant, you know how it is with veterans of anything, weed growing or not.

Your questions are not that out of the ordinary, pretty normal for a first timer, their are other forums although less active, will have less of a "burned out" veteran group who doesn't seek to see you succeed, but fail for their entertainment ect. GL.

Don't take it too personal, they tend to go over the same threads with the same questions from first timers, I imagine after a while it becomes no longer relative to helping ect.

Thank You Bygon, do you happen to have a step by step guide on how to grow plants? You are very kind and seem to understand my situation. :). I felt the back of the Cabinet and it feels like I might be able to take the back of or be able to cut through it. I hope I am just able to cut through it and not have any problems. Thank you so much for the picture, it makes me feel much better on me growing in a small space. I see all these pictures of large plants and I wonder how can you grow in such a small space? I only want a small plant that is personal use for two people. I am not going out to sell any my plants don't got to be huge. Can I ask you where you bought all of your stuff like the lamp holders (or do I have to make my own??), the temperature gage thing in the corner?, and a thing to read ph of my water. I don't have the money to really go out and buy distilled water if I am going to be buying all this stuff on top. I saw someone said to take tap water and leave it outside for 24 hours? Is that okay??

iblaze, thank you so much for your comment. It really made me upset when I seen everyone wanting me to fail. It made me feel much better. :). I don't really know what's the best nutrients as I haven't seen anything yet in what I read about nutrients. They say the name but not really how to use it. Do you mix it in when you water your plants? Also I saw people say they use miracle grow, some say Forest ocean, others say any common walmart brand but buy some perlite to put in it. I don't really know which one would be the best soil.

Listen, I dont cheer for anyone to fail. My issue is with growing while living with people that don't approve. Its highly irresponsible and inconsiderate. It puts those in the house at risk of losing their freedom. Thats an asshole kid move. If they have a vendetta against cannabis like the op said they most certainly will call the law. I know the younger generation doesnt appreciate tough love and wants to be coddled but sometimes hearing something you dont like is good for you.

Oh I appreciate some tough love because its the tough love that really makes someone really think about what they are doing. I really don't like the thought I am growing it with people who don't approve but they also don't approve of me spending all my money either. So either way they don't approve. That's why I want to go the stealth way so I have a better chance of not getting caught.

There is plenty of grow videos and stuff to help you, but basically think of it like this as a very general method: Nutrients normally come in a liquid form, in a bottle. They are to be mixed into your water and then afterwards you have to pH your water to the proper range for the medium, so for soil you want pH in mid 6's, as you can see by the right side of this chart (soil side),

it has the nutrients and their ability to be absorbed by the plant at different pH levels, too high or low pH and that specific nutrient will be "locked out" from the plant, this is why its important to pH your water and nutrient solution after adding to water. Try youtube for some general stuff if you need, Nutreints will come in 3 general phases in most nutrient packages, although some might be just 2. Grow and bloom/boost nutrients. These will be added to water and pHd properly to be fed to plant at day 21 or later/earlier depending on soil your using.

Miracle grow I've heard has some nutrients in it, would not need to feed the seedling nutrients for some time but its better to search for other Miracle grows using google search, type "growing cannabis with miracle grow" in the google search bar, should find plenty of threads to read. I think that other brand comes with nutreints as well, not sure whats organic or not to be honest but generally speaking you can find this out just by googling whatever soil you want, then google any question pretty much, although its not going to give you the 100% best answer, you can find just about as good input.

I personally used promix soil with perlite, but it has little to no nutreints compared to other soils, I don't know what soil is the best, I've only used promix as I'm still on my first grow, but I had many of the same questions, more or less went with promix for no reason other then its what I purchased.

No problem. :) Here's a good website to get you started as far as basics go: http://www.growweedeasy.com/easiest-grow-method-cfl-coco-coir

For the lamp holders, I bought a pair of outdoor flood light holders at Lowes that I hardwired to an extension chord (but don't do this if you don't know what you're doing.. might start a fire). The black hanging holder I had as a spare for my snake, and the clamp holder I got from Walmart. I started my seedling out under 2 26watt daylight CFL's that I bought at Walmart and gradually added more and more. If you want REALLY small plants, you may want to do a search for the Dutch Method and look up low stress training and topping/fimming. I kept the lights on mine for 24 hrs/day for about 3 weeks and then switched to 12 hrs on 12 off. The temp/humidity gauge I got from Walmart as well for about $7.

A lot of people are super against Miracle Grow, but I started my seedling in it and when I transplanted to a bigger pot, I just mixed some perlite in there and she seems to be happy. Nutes will be different for vegging and flowering so make sure you get a specific formula for each stage. I made that mistake when I first switched light cycles and ended up with nitrogen toxicity and its still recovering. You'll be surprised at how little you need to add to your water to make a difference.. start with about 1/4 of what the bottle says and go from there. And yes, tap water is fine as long as you give it time to sit out.

Good luck, and don't get caught! ;)

Thank you both again for commenting back, every single one of you that are helping me are amazing. Thank you so much. I am going to continue my research and hopefully everything will go alright. To me it feels like no matter how much I really learn I will still have to trial and error everything. XD

IBlaze, thanks for the visual nute table, I tend to learn better when there are pictures involved. I am still amazed how much work it will take just to grow the plant but it definitely seems to be worth it. I will do what you suggested and look on google for more information.

Bygon thanks for the link, it was also very helpful even though the guy uses the hydro system. Though it looks like he isn't so I am kinda confused on the whole thing about hydroponic nutrients. So is he using soil or is he using water? I will read it more thoroughly. Thanks for the good luck I definitely will need it.

Check the "ultimate grow DVD" for general basics, there is alot of "subjective" stuff, but he gives decent good amount of basics for you.

Pt. 1 of 3

other two parts:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4O_simYwgk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfcihjtPsXQ

I think majority of this stuff isn't too releavnt, like him building a little grow structure n such, but the ventilation part at 6 mins is good info for you to, for a CFL type thing you would only need smaller muffin/computer fans, for HPS might need window AC installed, and vent out of the room...so you can see where that would start problems, even with just CFL still need fresh cooler air ventilated through your box, and keep your air/humidity outside the box controllled, although it probably wouldn't be as hard with a few CFLs.
