u can go 12/12 from seed to bud. most people wait until their at least 12 inches. expect your plants to double in size at least, once you flip. if you are going to top though, do it at least a week or 2 before you flip. the rest is up to you.. at least, lol.

I say top one of them, just for the experience. no need to scrog your first run, also, this would require a longer veg

I want to keep the odor down but also have a nice yield. They look like they are flourishing and I hear that when you flip to flowering you should expect your plants to double in size... If that happened they would be about 3-4 feet tall but be super wide and have a bunch of tops because I have been LST'ing them. I would have to check exactly when I started them under the 600w MH, but I think it was 5/21 I started a consistent 18/6 schedule for them. Im curious as to how much I could yield from these 4 plants going into flowering at different times. I also want to pick the right week to switch to flowering. I wouldnt want to start flowering now if I could get much more than starting flowering just a week or so later.

Summed up..
Started May 21st
1. How many weeks should I veg until I switch to flowering (12/12.. OR do I gradually lower the amount of light like I see some people do.. Switching from 18/6 to 17/7 then 16/8 and so on.... during the weeks leading up to harvest??)

2. Ive seen that people leave the lights off for 3 days after they would usually chop the plants to let the crystals thicken up. Should I do this? (so just leave lights off extra three days instead of harvesting, then chop)

3. Flushing!!
I do not have much knowledge on this subject. I am using Miracle Grow potting mix for my plants and I am not sure if I should "flush" my plants or not. Ive seen in posts that you are suppose to water your plants with as much water as 2x the pot size.

Any other suggestions to maximize yield and contain odor. Seems to be controlled now but worried for the future. Looking for experienced growers feed back :)

Digital ballasts run much quieter and cooler....that's about it really.
Magnetic ballasts can get a real good buzz going (no pun intended ;)) which was noisy enough for me to change over...
I don't know, I hear they burn through bulbs too fast and are not as reliable as analog.

Thanks for the post, but its recommended to have a fan pull air through the filter instead of push air through it like you have in your picture. I also have a separate fan with controllers for each of the lights and the filter to maximize control. :) The box is built already anyway :) Please check the pictures at the link posted above. :joint:

and why is it recommended......... I can give several good reasons to run it the other way......not that I care I was just giving you my op.....to save space in your room!!!!!.....also what temp is that just above plants ....how close you got it to the plants?

Temps are about 75-80 degrees F

I think the lights are 16-20 inches above the tops of the plants.

looking good but my only concern is that when your plants get bigger and you raise the light you will get a dark patch in which nothing will grow.......how many plants have you got ? remember more plants doesn't mean more weed.....you will find you will get more weed from 1/2 plants than you will from 6/8....more plants less light and space per plant and less yield .I understand you want a variety so just stick to a couple of varietys per grow

How many do you think are in there? Just curious. :)

I have been LST'ing the balls out of them. haha. Its not even a foot tall yet covers the entire pot pretty well.

Thanks for the replies!

1. I would say start like now. your space is looking pretty full already.
when we say your plants will double in size, we don't just mean vertically... horizontally as well.
also, how many plants do you have? and what strain are you growing? either way it looks like too many. it also looks like your going to have a lot of leaves to trim in order to let light reach all of your bud sites.
2. this one is on you, im not sure there is a whole lot of truth to this theory. also, heat/light helps prevent rot.
3. yes to flushing.
4. looks like you have your odor control in check. maybe get an ona bucket on hand for extra piece of mind

June 9th

Switched to flowering (20/4 changed to 12/12)
Changed bulb from MH to HPS
Treated with neem oil

Tomorrow, I will treat the magnesium deficient leaves with some Epsom salt spray.

Was thinking a foot taller also on the box. Also from what I have read you should not need the ozone gen as you are using a carbon filter. I would consider using a 400w HPS instead of all those cfl, but then you would have to vent the heat generated from the light. One more 4 inch fan and ducting would would great tho for that. What garden setup are you using?
The 700 watts of cfl's in a shitty contraption i made burnt the fuck out of my ladies... When going into 15 plus bulbs, they scorch just like a hps at that point.

Can anyone recommend any good plant food for flowering?

I am using Miracle Grow Potting Mix and have not added any nutrients or plant food to it yet.

Miracle Grow Potting Mix -Fertilizer Analysis (NPK)

0.21 - 0.07 - 0.14

Im looking for plant food with a NPK ratio of 2-1-2 or 1-1-2, corrent?

Referring to this post..

Cannabis requires a 1:2 ratio of P to K throughout all stages of it's growth.

It's worth stating for the record the actual ratios of N, P and K that cannabis requires through it's life cycle:

Vegetative Stage
N - P - K
3 - 1 - 2

Flowering Stage
N - P - K
1 - 1 - 2

Final Flowering Stage
N - P - K
0 - 1 - 2

To translate this into a 12 week schedule for a typical Skunk type such as Cheese or Psychosis would give something along these lines:

Veg week 1: 3 - 1 - 2
Veg week 2: 3 - 1 - 2
Flo week 1 : 3 - 1 - 2
Flo week 2 : 3 - 1 - 2
Flo week 3 : 1 - 1 - 2
Flo week 4 : 1 - 1 - 2
Flo week 5 : 1 - 1 - 2
Flo week 6 : 1 - 1 - 2
Flo week 7 : 0 - 1 - 2
Flo week 8 : 0 - 1 - 2
Flo week 9 : 0 - 0 - 0
Flo week 10: 0 - 0 - 0

This schedule reduces the Nitrogen two weeks into the 12/12 period which will assist in stopping the vertical growth (stretch). It cuts out all Nitrogen after 6 weeks which will result in a less leafy, smoother burning end product with greater density to the flowers. The last two weeks of plain water is sufficient to leach out all accumulated salts and give a clean end product. Three week flush as advocated by some really isn't necessary if the Nitrogen is cut out after 6 weeks. The people using a three week flush tend to use Canna nutes which have too much N in them for late flowering and this is why they get a benefit from flushing for three weeks.

Hope that makes sense. Despite all the crap the nute companies fill our heads with about the need for all kinds of fancy bottles, you really don't need any of them. Cannabis is a simple plant, a weed in fact, and all it needs is the correct NPK at the correct time plus a full range of trace elements, that is hard fact and no amount of BS an marketing from the nute companies will ever change that fact.

Anyway
Hope this helps you a little bit ? Good luck and Happy Growing
