So I grew one plant hempy-style alongside some dirtbag plants last month. The dirtbags are flowering now, but unfortunately I had to chop the hempy plant when it got chest hair and a deep voice.
BUT. That was one massive sequoia of a plant! I transplanted it twice, ending up in a 3 gallon bucket. It was nearly 30 inches high and fat with a huge stem. I felt real pain when I had to chop it.
I couldn't stand to throw out all that perlite either. Washing it out in another bucket didn't work too well; there was so much root matter tangled up in there it was just impossible to separate and the perlite likes to float too much. Maybe in a really large container of water you could get it substantially clean but anyhow. So I just put it back in the hempy bucket and stuck a couple of basil plants in there; man oh man, did they ever take off. I've got the bucket outside and feed it once a week. Otherwise I just make sure the reservoir is topped up to the drain hole. No problem with the less than pristine perlite.
Now I'm thinking of replacing my entire vegetable garden with a kiddie pool filled with perlite. Well, not really, but damn this is a great growing method! I have a batch of clones which will all go into hempy next week. Really looking forward to finishing some girls using this method.

Thanks for the feedback Az! I am using tap water only because a fellow grower from my area told me the water from where I live wont hurt the plant. I guess he wus wrong! one other thing is im using MG perlite which I just realized has plant food inside of it. Other then that i nute once a week with a haf strength solution of 24-8-16. Temp ranging from 70 to 80. Also im using just one 16 watt 6500k cfl. What do I need to change about my setup?

Thankz! When do you reccomend I start using nutes other than the ones in the perlite? And also, I cant let h2o sit around for 2 days because others in the house would wondet what im doing. So in that case, what types of destilled or filtered water shotld I buy and where? Thankz again!

brother 52..your gonna want to add more lights while recomend hid lighting..i have seen good grows with a ton of cfl's...ok i dont care for mg per-lite i use the green bag horticultural grade per-lite.....those nutes with tap an nutes in per-lite are to much an your frying your plants....i recomend using r/o or distilled as the ppm is 0 an provides a great base....those nutes are a lil hot imo..i would only use them at 1/5 dose an only after 2-3 weeks of veg growth...hope that hlps..peace az

In a nutshell, the best of both worlds. Though soil is still probably a bit more forgiving on watering/nute sched. I seriously wanna try this. Looks killer and simple.

I am ready to start hempy buckets.
I have 4 potential females ready to be cloned, I have every single last physical material down to the razor blades. Two seperate lighting rooms. Proofs of concepts, ventillation, A CRAPLOAD OF TIME, *ahem*, etc all...
My problem is that I don't know what to expect when watering. I am going to do 8" hempy buckets, I have these awesome 'plant spa' buckets that let you see exactly how much liquid is sitting in the bottom of the bucket, I really really really need to know a specific process to combine razor blades, vegin plants, perlite, GH micro and bloom and distilled water and come up with new plants... where to cut them at, how much to cut, what nutes to use, how often to water...
Additionally, how much water will the perlite retain? At 50%-65% humidity in my grow room, how much distilled am I going to go through per week per 8" bucket? (I am looking for a rough number, like 1 gallon, 3 gallons, etc) and how often do they HAVE to be watered? I am disposed for about 72-80 hours through coming up here soon.
I know someone in this thread can help me with the details of the process! I know there are lots of answers in this thread, but I find so many different answers to the same questions!!!!!

the reason you'll find so many awnsers is that hemoy buckets are so specfic to that user..yea i have laid down a basic plan of attack but its the foot solders like ya'll who will apply your own ideas an tactics to it.....so with this in mind....it comes down to you an your conditions an strains....if you have a slow growing lower yeilding strain your not gonna have to water an feed as often as you would a fast growing high yeilding strain...the same can ne held true for cfls growers compared to hid ime you dont use as much water with cfls....peace az
Well I got two in Hempy Buckets with cfls which makes me a an exspurt of course. I usually give them a half gallon of about half nuted water per day. When I pick em up to water the big one feels light and the small one feels heavy..aint sure whut is happening on that deal. They are obviously destined to be grand prize winners. I woulda done been broke on distilled water. I use stale tap water. That should work. Its a little high on the PH but the nutes brings it down I think. Aint checked it since I moved them from the AG over to the HB's. I'm trying to figger out how to clone something but I aint got no sheep embryos.

It's 'reverse osmosis'; if you look on the labels of the 'pour your own' stuff in supermarkets it is probably r/o. (see AZ, I DO listen lol) My problem with this is that I don't have a car currently so it makes obtaining and transporting more than 1 or 2 gallons at a time very difficult for me... imagine, I build my whole grow room (all materials) from the ground up with my bike and the city bus... I can tell you it requires some dedication to do that.
I am going to try cloning tomorrow, I really need to get my steps lined up; most people around here don't seem to understand that what we are doing is science and you need a designated process and a level of attention to detail greater than the average joe - especially if you ever want to know for a fact what went wrong with something. My first grow was proof that I didn't understand this, but once I started treating my grow room more like I treat computers I really came a long way.
I guess I am going to try 2 clones each plant into hempy solo cups and prep the buckets for the clones. Gatta make a trip to the grocery first though. I am going to mix nutrients tomorrow and once I have the proper grow medium I think I know my cloning process decently -
My real issue is the growing medium, I don't want to just start cutting limbs from stuff without knowing what to put them in! Should I use like a half strength or quarter strength nutrient solution for the clones? How deep into the solo cups should the stems go? How much light should they get? - I have 15w grow tubes made for this but I don't know if cannabis responds well to them during clone rooting.
Any help is greatly appreciated as always... thank you RIU

I.E. I have a gallon jug of distilled, am I adding 8ml micro to the jug and then adding 16 ml bloom to the same jug?
What strength should I use for brand spankin' new (just cut and dunked) clones in the hempy cups? Do I want to use the veg formula while they are in the cups and switch to flower after they are rooted? These will be going from the cups to gallon buckets and right into flowering mode.
Also, can you use tablet/beaker PH test kits made for soil to PH your hempy water, or do the probe soil meters work at all? I have both of those, do I just need a pool kit or something?

I will throw my 2 scents in I have been succesful with hempys and cfls, I water every 2 days I can stretch it too 3 if I want or need too, my hole is 1.5 inches from the bottom of the cup, I am using 32oz cups from start to fininsh, since I am settig up a perpetual and my clones are getting no veg time just a week to root, I only use a bllom nute formula with a touch of N in it...KISS, I always use r/o water, and i keep my ph at 6.0...
I have cloned succesully, I dont do anything special no magic potions or gels, I take a cutting, I put it in a rocwool cube when it starts to yellow, or show signs of new growth (usually 3-7 days) I put it in a hempy bucket and flower... again KISS, I have only cloned 10 times so far but all have been successful, I even took 2 lower branches from a plant I harvested, I followed the same routine and it worked without a problem, IMHO people make cloning and growing in general appear to be more complicated than is..I also had a succesful clone just from taking a cutting and putting the stem in a coffee cup with ph water that I changed everyday 5 days later little roots again no potions or powders just the stem and some water....
