I dont think my roots had any problems they looked very happy when I harvested I think AZ or Lumberjack also posted some good rootball shots

I frequently tip the buckets and pour the res. water out the hole, after having it topped off for a day or two. "Wet feet" seems to become an issue sometimes, esp. if there is Vermiculite in the mix. I now use plain Perlite and I'm impressed with the results. The only touchy part of the whole grow is getting the roots to find the bottom without over-watering or dehydrating the plant. Fortunately the roots grow very quickly so this period doesn't last long. Once the roots find the res, these bitches are off like a prom dress.

aye those are some of the problems assocted with using anything but 100%perlite as it holds water a lil to well...yes the roots do grow extremly fast an large...small plants an seedlings with barly any uptop growth will have explosive bottem root growth...this is why in the early stages for only a week or 2 should you have to water everyday...

nope...as there's not stagnent water in there..since the water is used rather quickly an ultra effecitetly you will be adding fresh oxgen rich water regularly not to mention the o2 trapped in the medium itself...i have yet in my few years of growing this way an all the other grows i have seen...there has been no root rot.....peace az

Hey I am sooo excited about this.....I had some clones, and put some that rooted in soil about a week before the other clones had roots and they went in to hempy. So the soil ones had a week or more to grow, and the hempy ones are already much bigger. It is amazing how fast they grow, and how easy it is!!!!! One question, now that I am sold, and want to switch ASAP!! When it is time to move the clones that are in soil to bigger pots, can I switch them to hempy?? Is that possible? I was thinking leave most the dirt from the smaller pot or what doesn't fall off easy and just putting in a large hempy buckett? Would this work? Thanks!!!

that's what I did with my plant, I was so sold on hempy that I transplanted her for the second time and she grew like weed with no problems.....

Why Perlite? I know why perlite, I guess I'm asking, why not something else? What about using hydroton or something like that?

ime.....vermaculite holds to much water....coco coir an hydroton are more ph sinsitive an require extra work....per-lite is everywhere an inexpensive is ph neutral an holds very well...imo its the best medium i have used for overall ease plus yeild....peace az

I tried to read the entire post but only made to page 40, I'm lazy. Sorry if you allREdy answered this but do you think it would help to put a wick in the hempy to help bring water to the roots before they hit the res. I'm planing to use up my ff ocean forest by starting my clones in 12oz cups with the soil then throwing them in the hempy bucket, wht do ya think?

you have another convert i was going to go bubbler or coco but after reading this monster thread i will be trying hempy's way for sure

i am on my first grow in soil and i have had ph problems (cheap soil i think) this looks to good and easy to be true.

has anyone used sensi nutes with this system

apart from that i take it it is similar to growing in hydro re. giving boost nutes in the latter stages of flowering.

you dont need the wick as the medium itself is the wick....an yes this system is a passive hydro system so hydro basics do apply....peace az

First timer so I've got some Newbie questions.

All 8 of my seeds cracked today. I'm gonna give this hempy a try.
The sprouts are about 1/2 inch long can they go directyl into the hempy cup now (32 oz) cup filled with 100% perlite and a pencil sized hole two inches up from the bottom? and then say bury sprout with 1 inch of perlite?
Watering only, no nutes for aboue 3 weeks? once a day until roots get established?

Should I leave them in the dark in the cups for a few days or straight to the lights after putting in perlite?

after planting, put under a CFL light, to let nature show it the way to the top of the soil, and teach it to grow to the sun, and to get as "High" as it can.

haha thanks for sharing... very simple, yet if it works then damn it sure is straight forward! I personally don't mind having to water plants here and there.
