Prison experiences

You really want to hear the story? It's kinda boring and you'll probably roll your eyes...

I guess I could have gone to prison if they hadn't investigated.... so maybe it's almost appropriate for this page? lol

Oh well, the guy that started the accusation was a pompous ass white bread ass hole from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He challenged me to a game of pool after he saw me lose to a girl that I was playing with. I whooped his tail and he was apparently the sorest loser in the history of mankind. He had it out for me from then on. Anyway...

I speak and read a little Arabic. I try to be polite an observe customs when in other countries; part of that includes picking up on subtle things that people do, such as clasping your hands behind your back when speaking to an elder/superior. Making exaggerated physical contact and salutations. so on...

Anyway, when I was in Iraq I got along well with the locals because of the reasons listed above. When I went to the chow hall, the locals would see me come in, yell to me, and make my plate for me, cuz they knew I always got the same thing. I got to skip everyone in line, lol. They would also give me gifts and I would return the favor. It was never anything fancy or particularly nice, you know... things like a coin or leatherman or food that someone had sent me. Well, the guy I mentioned in the first paragraph told our superiors that I was sneaking out at night and giving information to the locals. That I'm weak and they are taking advantage of me. This is evidenced by the fact that they are nice to me and no one else.

Well, it snowballed when he started spreading this around and people started believing it and when you get enough people believing something... then it becomes truth. Well, I got marooned of sorts after this and the investigated. I got sent to Abu Dhabi all alone just to sit or whatever, so I spent a month doing nothing but laying around at the pool drinking beer. When I was cleared, they called me back but didn't let me go back to Iraq. They sent me to Doha to be a buyer for the squadron. Since I knew how to deal with them and speak the language better than others... why not send me to buy all the supplies we needed. It was a cool assignment.

But during that time of being accused, there was a lot of mob mentality going on. One thing I remember very clearly is having my shirt yanked off of me, shoved to the ground, stood on by my own guys and lashed hard with an extension cord around 50 times. Oh course nothing ever happened with all that and the guy that made the false claim was thanked for being vigilant and given an award at the end of his tour. Water under the bridge I guess.

There is a lot more harassment that went on that I will spare you. I've never been driven to the edge like that before or since. I almost killed him. In all seriousness, I almost shot him in his sleep. I had my rifle loaded and was standing over him thinking and staring at him while he slept. Luckily I was strong enough to not let me emotions get the best of me. Well, that's most of my story, lol. Sorry it's so round about...

I feel you Neitz, simple shit can get soo out of control sometimes...Sounds like you came thru it all the wiser....that's all I try to do in life is learn lesson's only once...it's when I learn the same lesson the second time that it really hurts!...I saw some really screwy situations in Vietnam that I couldn't believe went as far as it did....."fragging" was not all that uncommon in Vietnam.....there was more than they reported even......hard way to learn lessons

I'm good now. That was 7 years ago. I was really bitter and anti-American for a while. Oh my opposition to the war didn't help my case. I went to Iraq all gung ho (spelling), but when I got there I had a rude awakening. I realized how naïve I was and that war was NOT a clean honourable event. Anyway, I'm good now. I don't hate America, I just want her to be great again. Thanks for the kind words you guys.

LOL, I could tell you about the wild Iraqi dogs trying to eat me.
And almost shooting a farmer with our Mark-19.
And digging up millions of dollars that someone had buried in the middle of the desert.
