Plant sex check, and any other info?

Hey all, new to the forums. Iv finally decided that Im going to attempt my first grow (outdoor). I managed to pinch a cutting off of a mates dads plant (which we dont really want him to know about), that im currently in the process of cloning into a mother plant for more clones. Im currently on the 7th day of cloning using the plain water method. And although im fairly sure that its female, I thought I would just check incase im wasting my time. And if anyone has any info on the strain that would be great, or is it still too early to tell?

Thanks.

Your not going to know sex until you take the light to 12/12. I have a picture on my grow thead of male and female flowers. If your friends dad knows his shit then you have a female plant. Good luck.

I might as well keep it all in one thread.

I has been 13 days and still no sign of roots, one or two leafs are starting to go brown and shriveling up at the tips, but the other leafs are fine and is continuing to grow more leafs. Whats happening? Im using 12/12 light and putting it under a small 25w incandescent light (still quite bright) for the last few hours of the day as the days are shorter now.

Any tips/pointers? I have a feeling something isnt right.

Heres your problem...Get a different lite. Incandescents wont cut it, get cfl or hps. Later

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a funny feeling it could have been that. Im going to look for a CLF as I only need it for cloning, then its going in soil and outside. What color temperature should I be looking for in this situation? Warm or cool? And approx what wattage?

No go to home depot or walmart and get a giant ass CFL that uses like 34 watts and says on the box

34 watts=150watts or something like that, the bigger the better.
Try to get a Daylight variety if possible, think blue light

I would go into more detail, but its not really nessecary.

JUST bigger is better.

Cool, thanks for that.

But I have just a few more questions to clear things up.

1. Approx how many lumens is needed per clone/small plant?
2. Is it true that cooler colors (eg. 6500K) are better for veg?
3. Will going overboard with CFL's damage the plant? (not that I will be).

Clones actually need kinda low light levels to get going, so no in theory with CFL you cant over do it.

Although to be honest once you get into the 100 watt an 200 watt envirolites puttin out like 10,000 lumens and 20,000 lumens ya thats overkill.

Cool, cool. I might experiment a bit here. Il head out in a few days or so and look for a couple CFL's. Seeing clones need only low light il try that small 6w globe (nice and small for the small light box I made up) as well as a bigger one.

Thanks to all for the info!

You should really get that bulb that ganjagoddess posted a pic of. Any walmart/lowe's store has these. It's $8 for a three-pack. Maybe less. You want to get at least the 26w, higher if they have it. You can root 8-10+ clones under two of these bulbs easy. And it's actually the hotter (higher temperature) bulbs that are bluer, meaning you want the 6500 degree not the 2700. And you should really do this ASAP. I don't see how the clone has survived this long on incandescent light. Good luck.

Get the 23w (Daylight 100) bulb. Buy 23 Watt Daylight Compact Fluorescent Light. BPESL23TM/D by Feit Electric at Hardware and Tools Corp.

Make sure to get Daylight and not "soft" or "warm" colored, as those are not as good for vegetative growth. 100 watts of light is high enough to blast your plants with the light they need, and they are versatile and won't overheat as much as the 150w equivalents. Plus, you can get the 100w daylight bulbs for like $3-$4. The 150w daylight bulbs are like $8.50. Just try Lowes or Menards or Walmart or Home Depot... or the internet.

Alright il pop into a few shops sometime this week. Btw, we dont have Walmart, Lowes.etc over here in Aus :p But shops like Kmart, Big W or even the local Safeway (general shopping chain) should stock them. Between them I should be able to find something.

Oh and the clone wasnt under the incandescent light the whole time, it still got majority daylight.

Oh, Australia. Cool, always wanted to go there. Walmart and Kmart are pretty much the same thing over here at least. They should have a big selection. Just try to maximize that sunlight until then. peace.

They had a few at Safeway. I got this one:

It is really quite bright! They also had the GE brand but this Phillips was the highest wattage one there. I hope it does the job! Will have to wait and see :)

Congrats you made a good move for the veggin light of your plant.

Now if possible Try to get like 8 more of those!!!!

8 more?! I only want it to assist the clone to root, then its going outside.

Now would 18/6 be ok to used apposed to 12/12? Would it make it progress faster?
