After considering some DIY, I realize that I could do it, but I would much rather purchase an assembled unit instead. That being said, I do have a few requirements:
1) Sometimes height becomes a consideration in my bloom tent. I would like a panel that will not bleach my plants if they get within 4" or so. I have found very little bleaching when this happens under my PG180, but that might be just a function of that panel's weaknesses.
2) I only need to cover 1x2 right now. I am going to keep my PG180 on one side of my 2x2 tent for 2 plants, the new panel will cover the same. The PG180 is not the best, but I have had several successful harvests with it. I will be replacing ~165w of PLL tubes.
Right now I'm looking at speccing an Apollo 6, trying to achieve >60% red and ~10% blue. Trying to do this with a combination of WW and reds. However, many people are claiming that the Hans Panel, at only 56w, is a better option. I would like to believe this, but I think this is just opinion so far, until I see a valid comparison.
Maybe in a year or less, I'll look again into doing a DIY to replace my PG180, but for now it seems to be between Hans and Apollo.
Any thoughts? And please, just don't say "Apollo is junk" or "Hans Panel is better". It seems a fellow user is growing some nice NL using Apollos!
Thanks!
