My 2 cents on seeds going in rapid rooters or rock wool

First off, I only do hydro and am very experienced using aeroponics and dwc. (10 plus years) I mostly do aero.

anyway, a few years ago I realized that rapid rooters are the WAY TO GO when it comes to starting seeds.
Airflow is so important at the beginning of a seeds life. Rr have a lot of airflow!!

rock wool, on the other hand, doesn't. It retains so much water it can kill off a seed quickly if over watered.

now yes, you do need to check on your Rapid rooters more often but what I do is...

put a phd container of water w/ a tiny bit of rooting solution by your rr plug tray and 3/4 times a day.. Go drip some on the plugs. Best part about rr plugs is they breathe!!! Which never allows you to over water. ( but be smart dont dump.a lot of water.

I'm sure most know this and I'm sure some of you use rock wool bc you know how to airate them but I've just found rr to be so much more forgiving and easier.

On 5 grows and 14 seeds total, I've never had a seed started in a rapid rooter not germ on me.
You bring up a great point. With rr, you can literally germinate the seed in it! Dont even have to use paper towels.

the key is to split the rr down the middle about 60 percent. That way you can open it up

I love `em, they are much simpler. the wool is fine but more trouble. I`ve never noticed any different grem rates from one to the other.

I think rockwool is the worst thing out there when it comes to seed starting. I have tried it but I don't think it creates the best environment for germination, and I just like to pop a seed in and go. If you want to use rockwool as your medium fine, but I would use the 4x4 cubes with the hole in it which will fit a organic plug into it. Start the seed in the plug and transplant it anywhere you want, hydo or soil it doesn't matter. I have had a 99% success rate using this method, but to each their own.

I use pro-mix or germinating seeds or rooting clones as I always have a few bales lying around works every time probably not so good or hydro though.
