The reason that I don't mind gay rights progressing faster than marijuana rights, as a heterosexual consumer of marijuana, is that smoking is a choice and being homosexual is not. Maybe the engagement in sexual acts is voluntary, but who you are attracted to is not a choice. So how can you restrict people's behavior in a way that forces them to go against their attraction.

What if the straight people were forced to either lie or have homosexual relationships just to fit in. You wouldn't want to date anyone you weren't attracted to. What if the girl/guy of your dreams was the most beautiful person in your eyes and all of your friends and family thought they were unattractive and ugly? Would you want to live your life based on what other people liked or maybe would you enjoy life more if you were with the people you wanted to be with most?
