Hey man... you get what you pay for... xtrasun is a name brand... a good name brand at that... its hydrofarm.

I have that exact same ballast... hehehe... in your comparisons there was allot of difference...

1 the ballast... xtrasun= hydrofarm

2. Bulb= the xtrasun package comes with a hortilux bulb that is 69.99 alone... the bulb you get in htg is 39.99 alone...

3. reflector= xtrasun= hydrofarm.... and that one is loads better... it seals better with the glass. I would upgrade that one to the daystar ac 6 inch (i have that and how well it seals is awsome.. the glass doesnt slide in... its like a door and has screwes to secure it.. its lined with foam to make sure it seals.... But getting that jumps your price up..

Again... if you want cheap stuff then go for it brother... I would probably do some kind of a combo... I would make sure that the ballast and the hood is the same company as they usually have special connectors... (at least hydrofarms are different).... I think that if i was going to buy everything all over again i would get those cooltubes.. theys seems to be the best for the price.... they are the cheapest...and you dont have to worry about the glass seal cause its a tube...replacing the lamp would be more difficult... but you do that every 6 - 9 months... Maybe even one of those dual cooltubes... have you seen those?...ooooh....

the second comparison im not even going to touch cause that hood and ballast looks like crap and i wouldnt grow my special plants with that.... just doesnt seem like a solid unit... i could be wrong... and probably am..they probably are just as goos as making your own.. in which case it seems like a good price.... hell maybe see if the cords are compatible with that cheap ballast and a cooltube....

anyway...i stand by my quality rant....

I really do feel you on the quality rant, but when you need 6 1000 watt enclosed air coolable fixtures, paying $500 a piece is not a option.

Good arguments both ways. However, some of us don't live 30 minutes away from a Hydro shop. If I did, I would build a relationship the local and spend my money there for reasons other than convience or quality.

I have had nothing but great service from HTG. The prices and service have been excellent. I have another order showing up on my doorstep on the 11th.

I do find this thread funny. Talk about bitching...some have been complaining cause they got a free lighter. Only in America! :lol:

1 i understand that equipment is not illegal, my point was that when they service so many illegal growers, and lets face it most if the people on this website grow illegally and dont have the good fortune to live in a state that has legalized medical mj, they know that the majority of people that get screwed arent going to do anything about it other than ask for an exchange.

2 and in regards to the legality of medical mj your permit isnt worth the paper its written on till its legalized federally. state law doesnt keep the DEA from knocking on your door, taking your shit, and arresting you regardless of whether it gets thrown out by the judge

I would like to make a UPDATE to this thread:

Today I recieved my two 1000 watt light systems from HTG

I ordered two of these:
High Tech Garden Supply

I also Got the upgraded Euro hood for +$25.00

Total cost a light $265.
Total Cost paid for both including shipping and handling $604.95


So I get the package(s) and to my suprise I did not get the GROWBRIGHT BALLAST i got the Agrostar. this one. High Tech Garden Supply

SWEET IM thinking, I take everything out of the box.

Set it up for testing. and BOOM

1 Ballast works
1 doesnt.

So I start swapping parts like any good tech, to see what part the problem lies in.

I have One bad Ballast, and 1 Bad bulb.

The ballast hum fines, but doesnt even try to spark the bulb.
and one bulb tries to spark but doesnt FIRE.

I AM FUCKING LIVID, everyone said this company is bullshit for doing this.

WELL THEY ARE, every order the ship has to have something wrong with it, WTF.

COMON HTG stop being bitches and deliver like you said you would.

sounds about 50/50. i really wish people would STOP defending these guys. they SUCK!!!!!! :evil:

that sucks!!! it seems their bulbs have an even worse thatn 50/50 chance of ariving in workable condition. I've orderd about 8 bulbs from them, only 3 worked :P
yea FDD my craigslist sucks too!!! I found only one person selling HPS lights it was a great deal btw, they were selling 4 600W HPS lights for 100 each, buttttttt the guy lives 2 n a half hours away :( and that was the only hps related craigslister anywear near me :P

Also I should say that I had an order from them that contained an older/slightly different version of the nute kit I had ordered. I mean, they sent me a whole new one, so I can't complain sitting here with all these extra nutes... But I have the feeling Fdd is right about these guys. They do stuff like give you free shit so that you won't complain about any other inconsistencies... does anyone else feel that way?

It really does seem that they sent me a upgraded version of the ballasts in hope that Ill take X days longer trying to figure out whats wrong with it, meanwhile they get to hold my money while I have a broken piece of $300 equipment.

Whats WORSE it that the one that does work seems to me to have been USED!!!!
