600 HPS or 400 Worth THe Upgrade?

I'm currently vegging under bout 525watts of flouros and CFLs, and flowering under 400HPS. The 400 is ok for MH use and I have MH bulbs.

I was thinking about using the 400 as a MH for vegging, and buying a 600HPS for the flowering stage. Just wondering if the upgrade was worth it, it's just 200 watts.

If u can get the full potential from the light then yes. SOG puts your entire canopy closest to the light source. And that's the trick. Maximizing your light's potential.

What was the difference you observed in the plants?

What was the temp rise?

I have a sat, I think it's a C-99 but who knows with that one. I'm also growing an indy, and a cross from the two (accidental offpring ). Since I have a 12 plant limit, the space is limited. The footprint under the floros is about 2 feet by 4 feet, and the HPS covers about 4 foot by 4 foot.

This is a 400w grow.

Its well maintained with plenty of air exchange and healthy indica Dom plants.

Pics above are day 45 of 12/12 around 38 days actual flowering.

Density is dependant upon environment, strain and plant health.

I generally pull around 400g give or take 50-75g strain and season dependant.

That looks like about a 2'x4'...you could upgrade to a 600w and pull 600g's per run in that same space.

400w's are great, they grow weed. 600w's grow a little bit more weed. Is 50% more yield per run at the cost of increased power usage and increased cooling worth it to you? That's a question only you can answer for yourself (talking to the topic creator here).

50%, fuck yes it is. I never would have thought for such a significant gain. It looks like I'm getting a 600.

600 are in my opinion the best wattage for hps. If you used aircooled hoods you can put those suckers almost on top of the canopy. 600 also has better penetration than a 400. If uou have every other aspect down to a science the upgrade of 30% more power use will indeed yield you apprx 50% more due to the penetration.

Use the 4 for your veg and go with a 1000 for flower man. hands down best investment I've ever made. lol

I got a 600..Free.

A few months ago I needed a 400, had the bulb, needed everything else. I went on Craigslist, and found one for 85. It came with 600$ worth of extras, including a couple 100$ Ph testers.

Well, The plants outgrew the 400, so I wanted a 6. The purpose of the thread. I went on CL again, found a 6oo for 65. I didn;t have the money. I offered the guy 7g of mids I grew, and the Ph meter I got free on the last sale. I got my 600 now, and it didn't cost a thing!!!

The ~500 watt floro/CFL thing I was using for vegging has been replaced by the old 400, now running a MH bulb.

Thanks guys, you were sooo right. :) The veggies are happier, the flowers are as well, and the growroom is much easier to manage.
