First Time Grow! 4 FEM Berry Ryders OUTDOOR

Day 13 in soil:

Here they are.

There are 4 BR's in the 3 gals. I have 1 mystery seed left. The others pretty much gave it up before the update, so I threw them out. Their leaves were very wilted no matter conditions and that's it.

However, we have 1 real strong survivor (solo cup). The berry ryders have no smell, however, that Scooby mystery seed already has a skunky smell and is more developed probably because its been under the cfl's more directly while the BR's have been getting hardened off, including thunderstorms in full shade and protection because i really want to see what they do outside.

I'm excited for them all, that's for sure. I see growth everyday from the BR's.

I fixed the sideways plants i was complaining about above by basically by propping them up with soil and facing the bends opposite the sun so hopefully they would bend back.

Tomorrow, the Scooby Seed is going in a 5 gal pot because I feel like it will be bigger, and i'm buying GH nutes as well to start to giving to all the girls. Without further ado....

Here's the pics... again, day 13/14 for all in soil. Couple bigger than the others, but it is what it is. Mystery in solo cup...

I'm glad to see that at least one of the scooby seeds is doing well...maybe in about a couple of weeks/months, we'll be able to pull off the mask and see who she actually is!!! The others are looking good for their age. As soon as you get them outside under the sun, I bet they'll take off!

for the one that fell over what you did works you can also add more soil up to the lowest leaves if there is vertical space in the pot or put a stake in with the plant either leaning on or loosely attached to it. Also bury the mystery seed up to the first shoots (after removing any leaves below this point) when you transplant and then that stem will turn to root tissue

Thanks Dan. Turns out, my "solution" to the fall over thing was pretty temporary. Indeed as you pointed out, I am just using small sticks now that I have gently placed in the soil and the plants lean up against them straight.

Can i remove the cotyledons? On a couple of the BR's they are yellowing.

Also, as far as the stem and root tissue thing goes, color wise, it does a gradual transfer from reddish to green as it goes up the plant. Is this normal?

To my naked and very untrained eye though, everything looks very healthy.

they will yellow as the plant pulls nutes out of the leaves before shedding them. Once the leaves die you can pull them off when they are ready to be removed they will come off easily. The leaves will die in the order that the plant grew them and usually from the bottom up as the plant flowers. Some people are able to keep all of the plants leaves pretty up until chop by feeding nutes but I dont think its necessary. The plant will finish on its own and pull the nutes n such that it wants from the fan leaves to the buds and energy for growth and ripening/ trich build up.

I apologize for the lack of updates the past couple weeks. Been really busy. Speaking of getting busy, so are my girls, but alas, we've had a death in the family.

I went on vacation for 4th of July and one of my BR's which was always kind of a runt bit the dust. I fed my girls, which was 5, CNS17 Grow 3-1-2 right before I left on Thursday. I came back the following Monday and it was severely PH burned and also a bit drowned due to some pretty heavy rains. I assume the PH burning was my doing since i'm a newb, so chalk that up to the learning process.

So, left we have 3 BR's and 1 Scooby Seed. This is day 28 for all in soil. The scooby seed isn't really growing taller anymore and it's in a 1 Gal bucket. The others are in 3 gals. I guess i'm in preflower?

You guys tell me....Here's the pics...Excuse the Cell Phone...

You say death in the family and i immediately assume it's the scooby seeds...but, alas, it isn't, but she's stalling a bit...with the rain beware...I have had many a photo and auto stunt because of rain and low sunlight exposure. Have you got any pix of the scooby seed? (obviously, I've grown attached to the girl...) and I have a little feeling that she might be an auto...

All in all, I'd say it's going well...how are the temps where you're at? My grow isn't outdoors due to proprietary restrictions but I so much miss the sunlight that I forget the really high temps that can be created...give us some ideas about the nutes and watering schedule if you've got the time!

In any event, it's good to hear from you! I was missing your posts!

Thats the way to do it dont go by the number of days the breeders says they underestimate to impress.

They are in the beginning of flowering. They are showing preflowers those are the single carples that are at the nodes

Hey Buddy good to hear from you too! I should say first of all, my GF and I were reading this and she likes you! Lol! She says she can tell by what you write that we would all be cool in real life!

Anyway, to answer a couple of your questions...

The Scooby Seed would be pic 5 looking from left to right, or the pic by the beer can. I can take more pics if you'd like, lmk. It has a definite skunk smell now, but you still have to stick your face in it to smell it.

Temps are currently ranging from mid-high 60's to about the high 80's. If it looks like it's going over 85 or so, I tuck them in a shady spot as my handling of them is pretty easy. It's awesome to see the plants really stretch up towards the light and all the leaves pointing up during full sun. It's really something to behold.

Watering: Basically right now, i've just been playing it by naked eye, no real schedule. When the soil looks dry, which it hasn't because of the rain, I water. But I haven't really had a need to water so to speak because of the rains.

Nutes: I think i've been REALLY conservative thus far with no real schedule again. I bought CNS17 Grow 3-1-2 and PH up and Down and PH test bottle. I have the blessing of awesome tap water, so i let it rest to evap chlorine etc, then add nutes. My ph is usually right around 6-7 ish I believe.

Thus far i've been adding VERY LITTLE nutes, like maybe 100-250ML's of solution per plant at a ~25% dosage per plant. I'm currently on a dry cycle and plan to continue the grow nutes for at least another week or two, except i'm going to bump it to 30-35% strength at 500ML doses.

Edit: Btw, any pics we can see?

Well, from the pix, it looks like the scooby is indica dominant...i like the fact that you're using very little nutes...the end product might be less yield but much more better tasting. I always go the less nute road and that always makes a difference (sorry couldn't stop the robert frost when it started). I'm not growing for profit so yield is less important than quality.

You got some nice temps outside...it makes one envious!!! The marvel of the Internet is that you meet chill folk that you wouldn't otherwise meet! I definitely think we could hang together in real life, but for now, we'll have to be content with the virtual! Take care and I'll talk with ya soon!

The nutes sound good berry ryders dont like a whole lot of food esp N. your temps sound very nice both for you and the plants. But you may want to pick up something with no or low N, higher P, and a bit of K for flowering.

and I agree about the scooby it has some big fat leaf blades.

DAY 33:

Things are progressing. Things are developing pretty rapidly at this point. They all smell, the two bigger BR's more prominently than the smaller BR. Best I can tell is almost a skunky, earthy, slightly fruity, somewhat coffee-ish smell even. The Scooby plant is pure skunk. Still have to stick your face in them all to get a wiff.

I know it's just cell phone pics, but at this point, should I start giving Bloom Nutes? Please keep in mind I am thinking of this grow in three stages, Veg, Bloom, and then Flower.

As you can see, I do have some light deficiencies among them, but overall, they are still pretty healthy. The Scooby is showing the most yellow, probably because it's in a 1 Gal pot.

Also, I took a few pics where the bugs got to some of the fan leaves and had weed salad for dinner, lol. I know neem is the answer, but I don't want to mess up my buds. Can I still apply it? If so, How is best?

Other than that, I just felt like taking a bunch of pictures. LMK whatchu guys think!!! Thanks!!!

Edit: For scale, that gas can is a 1 gal gas can.

agreed those plants will still be vegging a while
when you say budding you mean actual or just stacked preflowers ?
well let me ask this what age did they preflower ? 21 days/5 nodes ?
after preflower you still have 2-6 weeks of veg in most cases

My first reaction was "I wish I knew..." Ugh. Newb-ness is getting the best of me here, sorry.

I would say they first started shooting the clear pistils about 6-10, maybe even 12 days ago. I see daily growth.

I said buds, but that may not be proper verbage, so forgive me.

Tek, do you think I should continue using my 3-1-2 veg formula for now? How will I know when to switch to bloom/flower?

sorry for the crap pic this is what i would consider flowering even though they are still stretching like crazy at this point
pre-flower is usually one or two pistils where the branches meet and then slowly work there way up

your plants are still stretching so they are in the very beginning of flowering, not near bud development yet. I would say for the nutes a little of the veg for the N content (unless a bloom nute you have has it) but just a bit N will help fuel growth but berryryders are not nute intensive IME especially with nitrogen, then up the phosphorus(P) with a pit of potassium(K). The petioles are all still green so dont go crazy with the P. So I would say maybe half and half veg/ bloom (at the concentration you feel is appropriate) mix assuming there is little or no nitrogen in the bloom mix. What are the NPK numbers on the bloom stuff?

Appreciate the advice guys. I have not yet purchased any bloom/flower nutes, but I will very soon.

For now, is it useful to continue to use my 3-1-2 nutrient for another week? two weeks?

Please also keep in mind I have done no training, topping, etc whatsoever. I wanted to just grow them out as they grow in their natural form.

thanks guys
