Hi,

do you have some nice sources/ shop where i could get some nice cheap e.g. cree?
In other Forums I found ppl saying they r getting original cree xp g and stuff for like 2,6$ per piece.
They did tests if they were legit and so on. Unfortunately they wont tell, so they could resell them with profit :-/

The growlight led companies thread is not what im looking for.

The last several lights I have constructed have been with the Phillips Luxeon ES stars from http://shop.stevesleds.com/ Check out the data sheets. He has some pretty good bins. The prices are not cheap but they are top quality diodes. I have built a few lights using cheap Chinese diodes and found that they run hotter consume more power and emit less light than the Luxeons. Cree has some pretty nice whites in the XTE version as well but they don't make any deep red (660nm). That's not to say that going cheap isn't effective. It's just much better with quality leds. I bought all of my cheap ones off ebay.

^^^ These "led speciality" shops always sooo expensive for components..

www.mouser.com

www.cutter.com.au

also 2.60 for XPG isnt THAT good a deal IIRC...
Not awfully different considering the convenience. Cutter would still be cheaper, but if you live in the US, you will get your LEDs much quicker from one of the ones I listed.

For instance, I can get a Cree white XT-E from LED Group Buy for $3.70, and even cheaper if I buy in 6 packs, and $2.90 from Cutter. If I buy 36 whites, LEDGroupbuy with shipping is $130, and from Cutter it is $117. Only $13 cheaper for the whole lot, faster shipping, and likely faster turnaround should there be any bad ones. For beginners, I think the specialty shops are a good choice (imho).

Mouser is just a pain to navigate altogether, and it does not seem they sell LEDs on stars.
