Ask an Indian who has asked this question most of his life .

Why did Christopher Columbus and his followers coin our people as Indians ?

He spoke old world Spanish and within this language is the word Indios which then is made plural as Indian and it means , those that are close to God as this is what Indian truly meant and is suppose to mean . Imagine the thoughts they had upon contact , the vast spiritual ways from nation to nation was more than amazing when one saw it in its glory !
