Scrap Metal....Thieves

So, I dropped my mom off at her house not an hour ago and caught 2 guys red-handed, stealing all of our scrap metal from the family business which is right next door. We do about 20 replacement heaters and a shit ton of motors a year. They literally had $1000 worth of our copper and atleast $300 of our bulk scrap loaded in the back of their pickup. I approached and accosted them with a metal bar in hand and told them to quickly unload our stolen goods and to get the fuck out and never come back. So, I do believe they realize this spot is now guarded and probably won't hit it again. But I'm pretty sure they've hit us acouple times before. I got their license plate. I'm torn as to whether or not to get the police involved. I don't really care for police. But ultimately should those thieves be taught a lesson? Anywho what do you think? Are you a scrapper? Any input whatsoever?

Fuck those theives. I have little love thieves. I would tell you to call the cops so they atleast have an idea of who to keep an eye on. I know how half this place acts if you utter the sentence I just did though  These fucks are just going to keep stealling from businesses and homes.

Now let all the tough guys post about how they always take justice into their own hands and beat people up on the daily.

I wouldn't get the police involved because there's probably not much they would do at this point. Get some security cameras?

Hard call, how intimidating were you when you approached with the metal bar?
id assume you scared the shit outta them, they might not come back(I wouldn't)

but if they looked at you like "WTF is this guy gonna do about us"
thats another story, they might come back at night and get he rest.or worse break into your house or vehicle

The law probably can't do shit about it. Is the dumpster or whatever you're using posted with no trespassing signs?
Someone ripping off scrap metal always reminds me of the guy that was stealing copper wire off construction jobsites.
Turns out he tried to steal some live copper and ended up dead, instant justice.

Tweekers, the got our building twice, ripped out 30dollars worth of copper out of ac unit, had to pay insurance deducible twice 1k eack time, complete bullshit. Hit up the cops tell them you caught them in your yard, they seen you and took off and you noticed some metal missing so it gets them to there house to look around. If its like any other tweeks there house will be littered with shit.. fuck the tweeks

I don't like involving the police but think of it this way, you need to make the cops aware of these guys, they may hurt someone on their next job.

I wouldn't rat on them but would install some signs and cameras.
Times are tough and people around here will steal the copper plumbing from your house, copper rain spouts churches, copper from your outdoor air conditioning compressor,
copper ground rods from cell towers and electrical sub stations.
Just a game to them and sometimes they get fried.

It's not like you would have been calling the cops on someone smoking a flower, we're talking about a dirty theif. You should feel no guilt in turning in a true criminal.

I been retired since 05, then gas was 1.85. anyways I took a part time job delivering oil field valves. I pick up old ones, bring to the shop and they get rebuilt. the owner said if you want you can take off the stainless off the old valves and put them here in this bin. when you fill it I will pay you a third. well I wasn't doing it, I would fiddle with the fork lift, clean tools and hang out between runs... that is until he told me how much he gets for that scrape stainless! now I don't take a lunch...I cull stainless..lol...yep theres money in scrape.
