...yes hps bulbs are for growing...but this bulb is not tailored to produce concentrations at specific wavelengths as a "grow" bulb is, it will work though...Im not sure why billbilly thinks HPS bulbs aren't for growing, but yes it will work you wont get monster plants but you could probably do two small plants, its built for flowering stage thou. i personally use a Super-HPS with great results.

Sure it is, 2700k is 2700k regardless, its all about the light spectrum. " produce concentrations at specific wavelengths" that statement makes no sense....yes hps bulbs are for growing...but this bulb is not tailored to produce concentrations at specific wavelengths as a "grow" bulb is, it will work though...
and as for the socket, this bulb is an e17 type socket.. So it wont fit a typical e27 socket... Both are edison screws except one is bigger.
