Hey all, When growing from seed, is there a preferred time you wait to prune the top? I seem to think it would be beneficial for the stem to thickin and roots to grow as much as they can, before i chop the top. When mainlining from seed is their a specific node you top down to? Do you always mainline the first set of branches or could you chop them and build a mainline off middle branches and chop the lower growth? I very much would like to mainline my four girls, they aren't quite ready to top, i have 4 seedlings in hempy buckets, almost 4 weeks old, growth was very slow the first 3 weeks, but are starting to grow faster as i think the tap root just hit the res. they just finished developing the 4th node onto the 5th... Thanks a bunch for this thread it has been very helpful so far!

I think that's all covered in one of the 1st post of this thread, but I grow 5 nodes then chop just above the 2nd like I read here in the mainlining thread. use the first node for clones and mainlign the second

That's exactly what I did on this plant! Hopefully when I grw the good strains I'll be all skilled 'n' shit.

M this is not what skill you need the skill you need is how to keep a plant happy and healthy, this is simple stuff that doesn't matter if you can't keep a plant healthy

I think that you should grow 6-7 nodes and take off the bottom 4 nodes, and use the 5th for taking clones, and trim down from the top to the 6th where you'll start the manifold. I think that using the nodes with more mature leafsets will help the plant rebound faster from the topping and trimming. Bury the extra stem when you transplant and it will root. This will make for less top heavy plants with a sturdier base to grow from.

Yeah that is what i was thinking when i see these great thick tall stems before the manifold even starts, that people let it grow to 6-7 nodes and trim up...using more mature leaf sets is that necessarily better for the clones you take? wouldn't a clone taken at the 5th node be stronger and have a better chance at rooting? or is it all from the same plant it does not matter? Any body else think its better to build the manifold off of higher nodes, than the first two..?

Do you chop all lower nodes at the same time, is there a noticeable amount of shock when you do that ?
Also a kinda dumb question , is burying the stem up to prior nodes after cutting them a must, or if left above it will still heal fine, just not gain more roots? Thanks a bunch DUB

It'll be fine either way, but more root mass means more production! You'll have to give more support to the branches if you leave the main stem lanky.

Nugs told me to clip and transplant all at the same time. It worked great! I think the more established the roots are (bigger plant), the better this process works.

Well if it's opinions you want..... What size pots are they... Looks like something I would have started a seed in... I start em in a 2 inch pot (similar size ass a party cup )then transfer to a 3/4 gallon. Seems like transplanting into that size is kind of pointless.... I believe in transplanting just well I think next time you might be able to skip to something bigger. I go 2 inch round to 3/4 gallon to 5 gallon but I might switch too 2"up to a gallon then up to a 7 gallon

Yeah Bud, I started in Pary cups and went right to 1 gallon pots, then up to 3s... Next run I' doing Cups, then 3s, Then 7 gal smartpots. Looking good though!

This is my best looking critical kush out of the 3 I have, what do you think another week or so to start the process? Any particular node look better for the mainline setup? what do you guys think?
