Deceiving smell

I still have over 5 weeks left till harvest, and onagel jar is at half gone. -_- The smell creeps up whenever the cubes evaporate, and there is alot of air movement so they evaporate in under a day easy with 3 plants, I put some in my room, kitchen and other room that is smoked in. I am uneasy now knowing the onagel route will cost 20-30$ per jar and it might not last all grow. I spend about 2/5ths the price of a tent on one jar already so I'm starting to contemplate moving to a tent grow but my sativa is 5'5 and LSTd out pretty wide, wouldn't probably fit under the 400w as light is another 12 inches above the 5'5, :/.

Not looking good at all, not into ozone generators or ionizers for obvious reasons, so its either onagel expense route or sell 150w supplemental and buy bigger tent, inline fan, ducting and also to boot to this situation and complicate it, my AC turns off around 55-58 degrees outside. I live in north east so I get just about 12 hours of AC on, before it turns off at this time of the year. By end of sept I probably won't get many hours of AC use in october days, so I will have to purchase a window fan that will appropriately fit the ducting as well as a inline fan and scrubber to exhaust. I'm hoping average window fans will put enough air into the tent for the scrubber n inline fan to exhaust smell, concerned about getting a tent and going in on all the equipment, but I don't think the onagel route is practical.

Anyone else use only onagel as opposed to tent and scrubber? I'm growing in a room, allowed to smoke no problems but have neighbor who I don't want her house smelling like weed growing which she lives ...above us, Lol. Any input or ideas, think I'm looking at dumping 200-300$ into tent setup, the smell is too potent when the cubes evaporate. :/

It seemed this was like a logic puzzle. So, it sounds like you've got 3 options: (1) chop them now to kill the smell, period; (2) by more gel; and (3) tent and filter.

(1) sucks. (2) and (3) require cash. You can get cash by selling your 150, which it didn't sound like you're using anyway. Ergo, sell the 150 and get a tent with a carbon filter. Not sure if a used 150 nets enough for a tent with ventilation and a filter, but if it works, then why not?

Three plants and neighbor lives above you.

First you need a bucket, not a jar. I use it to supplement my grow of four plants and there is NO WAY it would completely mask my grow on it's own.



Second, I would tent and scrub if I had someone living that close to my garden. You're asking to get busted.

Buy a carbon filter and a fan. It doesn't matter if you have a tent or not, scrubbing the air through a filter will reduce the smell significantly, even if the fan is just venting back into the same room that it is sucking air from. (put it in the room with your plants, obviously)

nah its a bedroom grow and its those push up tiles for a ceiling normal bedroom type thing, I am already slightly concerned about smell creeping up when cubes evaporate, would rather contain it in tent then the room with plastic.

Yeah its only like 50-60$ for the 150w, but it helps with cost of potential tent. I don't know, will have to come up with money for a tent, ducting, inline fan and window fan, scrubber. Probably about 100-130$ short after I get a tent, lol. Will have to chop if I don't do something, I can buy more gel but like I said its kinda 50/50, smell creeps up when the cubes I put out in tray evaporate, I don't leave whole jar open as it would probably be alot closer to gone. I will have to purchase gel or cut em I guess, probably wouldn't have the setup with window fan, ducting and inline fan with scrubber done before that jar is gone anyway.

A little overview of the situation, I lived in this apartment for last 3-4 years; never have problems smoking weed but the growing smell is quite potent and I do not pay rent here as I still live with a parent, don't work either so didn't fund any of this grow, might just cut n toss it because I don't have jars to cure either lol, kind of just was testing water for legalization, my state has upcoming referendum in november to vote on legalization, I think it will pass the public opinion vote pretty easy, so I went into this grow with intention of learning to grow. Didn't learn much considering ionic hydro nutrients in promix still not dialed in, yellowing on minor scale ect, pH outta range issues.

I sold my newer computer rig to fund the grow, was only 400$ initially, had got some extra for birthday ect. I don't have to worry about going to jail, but I would get a fine which is not a good idea for someone who doesn't participate in worker class society.

Will probably toss smaller indica female and dont kno wat ill do with blu venom yet, its 9 am and its only 48 outside, don't look like AC will be turning on for more then a few hours today, no window fan lol. Yer not looking good but it was a interesting experience along the way!

Actually have $0 so selling 150w on ebay and getting it shipped is relying on another person for shipping cost (mom), and also getting extra funds for inline fan, tent ect. Not really ideal to ask for money as I initially set out to grow with the funds I had, reaching a point where I am exceeding it and the smell is forcing me to make a decision, not sure how practical it will be to try an manage the smell with the current situation.

Atleast my neighbor is rather relaxed, she is on disability and psych meds, so I mean its not like shes holy saint and would start exorcism if she smelled weed, but its not courteous to let her apartment smell from my grow.

I can't just cut and toss em in garbage so I think i'll need to figure out a safe disposal method if I am going to ditch em, maybe grind up and flush or bury under soil and let it decompose?

agree, get a nice filter/ventilation now, will reduce it a lot and the gel can take care of the rest, then you also have a filter/vent set ready for next time where I would suggest you to get a tent or make a sealed room

best of luck, last 2-3 week`s seem`s to be worst in form of smell, so I would strongly advice you to act now before its to late

This type of setup without ducting/tent is what your talking about? I could see it scrubbing air in the immediate area in combo with gel as helping, hmmm maybe I can work a 100$ around here sell my 150w and see what other stuff I can do to get the fan/scrubber. Its semi-worth a shot, I got enough onagel to last for another week or so but the smell is only getting stronger, day 36 12/12.

That's the set-up to get^^. If you're really desperate then google DIY carbon filters and see whether you think it's worth it, hooked up to a cheap ass 2nd hand bathroom extractor fan.
Personally though I'd just spend the cash to make sure it does the job.... but I know that ain't always possible.

Yeah I can get together 132$ for the scrubber and inline fan and give it a shot I think, Moving these to secondary priority I guess, did this first grow without checking ppm in promix with hydro nutes, been raging alot lol :/.

Was holding off on this stuff thinking about selling 150w but I realize I can't with AC not turning on at sub 60 degree days, will have no light. 400w dimmed to 200 seems too hot as its open hood wing reflector, the htg 150 is closed hood with safety glass, runs a bit cooler with enclosed ballast. So will have to front 132$ for the scrubber and fan and just I guess take a lean out on some of my harvest, Lol.

tnx just don't want to have her hosue smell like my room when cubes evaporate, can't smell it outside my door but im concerned about seeping through ceiling and floor to her apartment above so I will get scrubber ordered tonight if I get permission and make a decent enough deal. puts me at ease a little.


1:14 pm and AC just turned on first time today as its warm enough outside now, will probably shut off within 4-5 hours, wont get much 400w+150w time in lol.

Not hating on onagel, it works great when I put it out in dish behind fan or around air movement area near plants, can't smell plants. Can smoke in other room without fresh air intake just a fan circulating air, and its still smokey in there but doesn't smell like anything but a minor hint of onagel, used some next to garbage as well as during summer racoons get into our shit so we have to keep it in basement stairwell, so hey atleast I got legit use outta it Lol =P.

Works decent for the applications its designed for, was impressed.

look good, that will also help keep temperatures under control, specially when you get a tent/sealed room, but you could still use the alu ducting to lead away the hot air trough the filer of course and out the room they are in, now I don't know how your set up is, but some plastic on the door to seal the room up as good as possible with the ducting at the top pulling hot/clean air out the room, and a opening down low for fresh/cooler air to traveling in to your plants


IMO a good ventilation is a must, as important as the light, even now when I run LEDs and don't really have problems with heat anymore the plants still need fresh air/co2 to thrive and the option to fit a filter once they begin to smell is also so important as Im sure you have discovered

I understand you cannot grow at the moment but before you go and kill anything have you thought about selling your plants to someone else. I had a decent size mother that I sold for $250 and the clones I sold for $15/per. You cold use the money to buy what you need for your next grow. Be resourceful.

Yeah I live in small town wouldn't be practical here, I was going to order 100$ filter and fan combo with ducting from ebay but the lean I took out on plants was with stipulation that I stop growing after these plants are finished at 8 week mark in 20 something days from now, which tbh coulda prolly went another 30-40 or something, but anyway I decided not to take the deal and order the fan and scrubber as I pretty much am going to have to stop growing after this harvest until next november unless I get my medical card; which I'm not interested in. More of a recreational use then medical for me, but my parent is concerned about the legal aspect of growing in my bedroom, and I used their stuff to buy lights and nutes ect as I was given money but they didn't know I was purchasing grow. I actually am allowed to smoke all I want, its just they are nervous about the growing aspect and still don't care if I smoke or not.

My state has legalization coming up in november 2014, in little over one year will be voted on by public to legalize; but its already been decriminalized here so not really big deal to me. I will jst have to wait until then as I do not intend on getting medical card, and don't want to give out 10 grams of the yield with agreement I stop growing, rather just knock her down early n call it a learning exp until next year. I consider it a little hypocritical considering they smoke and such too, but its all good no worries. I'm satisfied the legalization is on the way soon enough, I can wait another year I suppose; waited this long..

I could have purchased it tonight and just loaned out 10g of the harvest with agreement that I cut it down on day 60 of flower; which as you can imagine was kind of a gut meh reaction, lol.

Ah well, what can ya expect growing in an apartment you don't rent or pay for, gotta roll with it xD.
