So the wattage doesn't matter then?
wattage is more important IMO the the kalvin temp. As if you look around @ all the 12-12 perpetual grower using hps the whole time get nice yields still and have seen ppl flower under MH with good results. you want a minmum of 100 Actual wattage per plant and up it flowering. sure theres graphs and research that my say other. jus imho

Hi course the wattage is important,it would be useless trying to grow a auto with 25w,why not stop with all the lots if small wattage bulbs eating 240v each, search out a giant dual spectrum cfl, this has both red & blue spectrums with right lumen amounts on each side. Its a cold bulb so no heat probs & cheap to run.A 125w cfl would be fine 4 one dwarf auto or seedlings etc.You can get a 300w giant dual spectrum cfl bulb which is brill 4 mayb 3+! Leave me a note & i'll tell u where 2 get one. This shop after sales destroys all ur personal info. The plant takes what it wants-when it wants.Check it out instead of lotz of small watt bulbs!

i have 4 55's and 1 42 to go with the rest of the 23's and 13's. the 13's and 23's are ok, but the 42 and 55's will burn you. my nephew grows with the bigger lights like your talking about, and he says they get hot too.

Anybody who is using a smaller area (like 2'Lx2'Wx4'H) with cfls how do you vent the heat? I'm thinking maybe a 6" inline fan and some flex duct to pull the excess heat out. Right now my babies are looking stressed and I need a good idea.

Friends,

Got kind of a unique situation and need some guidance. I have a plant that got started late and took FOREVER to begin to veg (was thinking it was a dud and headed for the compost, then started popping little buds all over around the end of September). It's in a pot outdoors (moveable) and I don't know the strain - had Sup Silver Haze seeds and White Widow seeds that got mixed. Leaf shape looks hybrid and the plant is pretty tall, at least 5' or so. Anyway...

We're now at the end of October and it's about to frost here in the northeast. So I need to get this plant indoors so it can continue to do its thing as long as possible and max the yield. Don't have any kind of indoor grow set up currently so I'm gonna try and pull together an inexpensive CFL situation to finish her off.

Base on what I've read I believe I'd want warm white CFLs of the highest wattage I can find at Home Depot (or wherever).

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the fact that I'm bringing it inside late in the season from a sunlight perspective, but fairly early from a budding perspective. Should I tweek the anything about the bulbs? Should I go 12/12?School me up peeps

I think you meant to say begin to flower....anyway.... With a five ft tall plant being moved inside I would put it in the middle of a room(what space you got??),so there's plenty of ventilation and cool air. Then your gonna need at least 12...hell 16 or more 23w cfls on top and surrounding the plant. You can buy a 4/pk of cfls for $9 at walmart
With this many cfls your gonna have some heat in a tight/small space.

Yep warm whites or 2700k bulbs @ a 3 to 1 ratio with 5000k or bright white bulbs....9-2700k and 4-5000k bulbs at least.GL:eyesmoke:

Yep, flower. I'm not so hip to the lingo.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Basically have a small corner of the basement tarped off. Walls are painted white and the tarp is reflective so it made a pretty good little light chamber with about 90 seconds of work. Just need some more bulbs and a little fan. We'll see.

I started my question in its own thread also to get a little more traffic. No snub to your reply. Thanks again.

Greetings! I'm glad to see this thread is still up. I referred to it a lot last year when I was experimenting with cloning. I'd never done it before and needed a way to grow them indoors with fluorescent lighting while I learned how. It worked so well it scared me and I had to give all the clones away :-D My local dispensary was happy to take them for the year-round growers who supply them.

This year, harvest done and needing something to occupy myself this winter, I've actually screwed up my courage and am going to try and take my clones all the way to bud. I have three clones: Royal Cheese, White Rhino and Kerala Krush. Here's what they look like, in order from left to right, two months after first being rooted:

View attachment 2868669View attachment 2868670View attachment 2868671

This is the point last year that I panicked and gave them away because I had too many and didn't know what to do with them :) These three are about the same age as when I gave them away last year and I think I can get at least one of these three to bloom and bud for me. All three were cloned in early August (yes, after flowering started but the only problem I had was some shock from going back to vegging--all 3 lived) from mother plants that I grew outdoors from seed. Here's this year's garden, including mom-plants: View attachment 2868681 I had a total of five different strains this year. I'm still manicuring the moms--they were quite prolific--and it seems they produced some very good results.

So, I'm good so far because I followed the same steps as last year to get my clones going; steps I learned on this thread. Where do I start (what page number?) in this thread to catch up to my future lighting requirements? I've got two of the standard two-tube 4ft fixtures with the recommended fluorescent lights (watts, lumens, etc.) from this thread to get things started. I need to know how to keep 'em going with my florescent lighting because I'm poor and can't afford more than cheap shop lights :-D I don't need help with odors or nutrients (in general) or instruction on when cannabis flowers since I've grown outdoors for three years. Keeping things warm might be an issue because I'm experimenting in a cheap greenhouse that I threw a tarp over to make a grow room in one end: View attachment 2868694 I've got a little heater in there and figured I might as well try growing thyme, chives, garlic, onions, lemon balm and basil while I'm at it. :)

I'm a COMPLETE idiot when it comes to growing cannabis indoors, though. Never did it before, not even when I was a kid in the southwest smoking that Mexican dirt weed. All the kids I knew had a sickly little pot plant growing in the closet from the bag seed and I never even did that much. LOL

Get me going here, you experts. I've gone back randomly and can't find the info I'm looking for, yet. Is it here? What page do I start at?

Does anyone know where I can find some CFL socket adapter extension cords that support over a 60w bulb? I'm afraid if I buy the Y adapter I'm going to be doubling the maximum wattage for each cord.

Each standard(e26 or e27 uk) socket adapter is rated at 660 watts, your standard extension cord should be rated at 1675 watts........your 60w cfls should be 13w actual or maybe 200w actual either way, your good to.Just do the math:)You can buy these items at walmart, lowes, home depot,ace,sears....online at amazon and and many other places.GL
