CFL's vs 250 or 400w HPS..?

I see a $30 difference between the 400w and 600w on Amazon. Apollo brand... Very Trusted.

Problem is, that's a cooltube, and with the cooltube you'll not only LOSE light(from the glass as I've stated above)but you'll also have to get a More powerful Excaust.. Which then leads to different Carbon filter.. Which then leads to ventilation Issues.. Ect Ect you'll never stop spending $ and you'll never stop having problems..

The 400w is a Buck 30 on amazon.. Comes with Ratchet rope and Timer as well... Wow.. What a deal *rolls eyes*

Stick to The Cfls Love.. Two Plants a time.. Cfls are what you need..

If anything.. You should Upgrade all your Bulbs to the Highest one you have... 55? 60?

Not having to constantly try to adjust where the lights are was worth getting an HPS even if it didn't shit on the CFLs in terms of production. Get the HPS, you will be glad you did.
To the dude recommending CFLs, have you ever grown with both?

Yeah you're right man. If it can't be seen by humans (like IR or something) it doesn't get any lumens towards it. So lumens isn't really what we should be going off of.
But yeah you're totally right.

I grow with everything. From Cfls to LEDs to HPS all the way to T5s.. And than back around to the Sun and back

I don't recommend HPS because Clearly she can't handle that in such a tight fit. And she doesn't wanna spend the money on it either.. I respect what she NEEDS not what she can't deal with... That's the difference between us.

Believe it or not, alot of people CAN'T use HPS due to space or where they live.. This is one of those times. And it's best for her to Stick with the Cfls

^^^^^ that's why I recommended Philips allstart 330 cmh and cree led globes. They are fairly cheap. Very low heat. Produce very good results. Personally I don't like cfl's due to the amount of uv-c they put out. I don't want to get cancer from growing mj. Sort of an oxymoron. To each their own....

Honestly I don't know much of anything about those 2 types of bulbs... I thought about getting a 90w UFO led as supplemental lighting a while ago to the CFL's but couldn't figure out whether or not it was worth the cost. Do you think you could link me to some inexpensive bulbs that would work and how many I'd need? :)

You would need about 20 of them for two plants..

Blackstar has 135w UFO(which is what I use)
Sometimes their on sale at amazon for a Buck 50... Regularly $180

2 of those for two plants would be perfect

Black stars are the worst led They don't last even 3 months. Area51 and apache tech are the best Leds.

Apollos from cidly, astir led, vipar led , evergrow pretty good and reasonably priced. Also Hans led (bonsaihero.com) kick ass. 65w $250 w shipping. covers a 2x2.5 and all cree chips like a51.


cree globes from home depot 2700k run $13 each at 9.5 w. You only need 180 watts of them for a 3x3.

cmh. It runs off a 400w mag ballast. Then get bulb from 1000 bulbs.com or advanced tech lighting. Philips all start 330 cmh. Covers a 4x4 pulls 334 watts. Runs cooler than a 250 w hps. They make 205w allstarts that run off a 250 mag ballast.

riant makes pretty good induction lights. 200 watt one is $250 after shipping. Covers a 3x3. Check scarholes thread for that light.

there's multiple threads on all these lights in the led section.

I've seen quite a bunch of blackstars not even make it near that long. From myself and friends.. Plus the results of blackstars don't even compare to the other lights. Except for the chrome series but those are apollos and evergrows rebranded.

also LG solutions makes good leds too. Not the same company as LG electronics.

Blackstar is the cheapest $1/watt ratio you're going to find.

In any case, after I bought them, I was told I fucked up.. Because if you wanna grow with LED it's best to make your own Panels.. It's cheaper..

Area-51... You'd have to sell your car to grow with those lights

Area51 panels are $500 each. Summer sale.normally $595 155-160 watts covers a 2x3 . Lifetime warranty. Black dogs are the expensive ones $2000.
Apollos, evergrows. LG. Are a $1 a watt too and kick the shit out of blackstars. They use bridgelux and epistar and have great heat syncs and fans. Cree and osram are the best diodes out. Apaches are up there too. But they keep what they use a secret.

There was a time when I thought induction lights might be a good way to go, but then after some reading, I don't believe that's the case. I don't think I would recommend those to anyone. haha

it doesn't say what kind of diodes. Its missing 660nm deep red leds and white leds. Add like 4 2700k cree a19 globes too make a full spectrum. Those have from 380nm -730nm. More deep red than anything. Put 2 globes on one mogul. Have one mogul on each side. The clamp lights at home depot are $6 each . Just take off reflector. Globes work best from the side.

so a total of $60 more. Not trying to push those. But they kick ass. Best bang for the buck. I'm doing a vert grow with 16 of them.

also there are some cheap 660 deep red led flood lights on eBay. 20w for $38

if you do soil. I have a very cheap soil recipe that works great.
