When Buds Swell

For a 60 day flowering - when is the swell expected? If the pistols have all turned orange and inward can I assume the swell has already taken place? Thanks.

Sometimes i have thought a plant was finished only to see a few days later a big burst of new white growth coming out of budsites shit ive also ran one plant the was done trichome wise but it would have kept putting out more growth till it was dead i think, they say some sativas will do that and imagine a sat pheno from a hybrid will do the same strain dependent that is.

When 50%-80% of the pistils have changed color you should be thinking about harvest.
If your buds look white frosty you still have some time to go. look for the white to go away. If you don't have a scope

top you pull your plants based on pistil color? i prefer trichome and general calyx swell as my determining factors only because i have had plants with more white pistils then i would like show amber and ones that were 90% red/brown withered recessed whatever you wanna call it and the trichs still weren't mature.
Don,t know i guess i would say try to do a multiple stage harvest and decide for yourself how ripe you like this particular strain

If he doesn't have pictures what else can you tell him.
Those are the generals guide lines. if you don't have a scope to look at trichromes. You have to go by visual.
Old school. you grow enough plants you know when there done just by looking at them.

I wasn't trying to say you were wrong just asking really if that was how you personally judged your plants, hell is there a wrong way? As long as your happy with your end results that's what matters

Thanks guys. I asked because this grow, most of the pistols were orange and curled in on day 59 since the flip. Master Kush/DWC/600w. But calyxes didn't plump up like the 1st grow (400w) and the buds hadn't shown growth in a few weeks. Crappy yield this go. No change in method either. Suspect bugs may be eating the tops off buds so not sure whether to risk waiting another week to see if they will swell or chop now to beat the bugs to the buds. I checked the Trichs which were mostly cloudy and no amber. So basically, need to know if all the hairs are orange and curled in should I assume she's done all the swelling she's gonna do??? 20130907_160811.jpg20130907_160829.jpg20130907_160926.jpg20130904_224917.jpg20130904_224908.jpg

Na they will still swell up. The hairs will not be as visible and long like that. Some say they recede back in, don't know if that's true or the calaxyes just swell and that's why there not as noticeable but yeah they still have to swell up. If it's just personnel smoke you could harvest now if ya wanted but you'll lose a lot of weight. Do as I say not what I'd do because if I was out of smoke I'd be trimming it up bout now, haha. But if your good on smoke let it ride a few more weeks. Just my opinion.

Also just to add unless you have a fire strain like some D or skunk, if you chop early the good smell wont be there. Personnel smoke don't matter but if you sell or want to show off to the fellas or sell let it ride for full bag appeal. Again only my opinion. GL

:weed:this looks to be a VERY small plant correct? i use to grow those lil girls, if your plant is the size i think it is, It will swell some but it wont get much lager, IF YOU SEE ANY BANANA looking things CHOP it, this happens sometimes for many reasons, and in my experience can happen to those small plants much eaiser, they give you about a Quarter of dried medicine...either way its a stepping stone brother, Keep it up!! one day you will be growing MONSTERS :) ONE LOVE:weed:

I just chopped a kokush at day 50 but honestly should have let it go another 8-10 days but when your outta smoke and have quite a few other ladies in week 7 or better well sometimes you gotta make sacrifices.
Besides it's all personal and i am pretty sure i still got over a zip once dry and the smoke i sampled a week ago was fire next cycle of the cloned kokush pheno1 will defnitely be given some ore time though sannie says 7-8 weeks i still had a little clear and mostly cloudy with the occasional amber maybe a few percent

Thanks RIU - I appreciate all the advice on when she'll be ready. I'm still looking for opinions on my original question: if all the hairs are orange and curled in should I assume she's done all the swelling she's gonna do??? OR can she still do some swelling still?
