Male flowers with pistils!

Need advice! One of my male GDP (Ken's) has some CRAZY flowers on it.
I grew out 5 seeds, got 2 female, 2 male and 1 runty thing I yanked.
I kept the 2 males long enough to collect some pollen then chopped them. Left the stumps in the pots and set them aside (actually forgot about them). They grew out some new branches and put out lots more male flowers. But this plant now has these. Pistils?
Can't find any info on this.
I've seen female herms, they have lots of female flowers and then pop out a male flower or 2. I figured a male herm would have male flowers and then pop a female flower.
These are MALE flowers with pistils.
He was an absolutely beautiful male, bushy with short nodes. I seriously considered taking a cutting for a father plant but decided to just take pollen instead. I did get a lot of pollen from him. Was checking him daily and never saw a female flower on him before the chop.
Anyone seen this before?

your plant looks odd all together. the leaves are not even serrated and theres only like 3 blades on each leaf. almost looks like something else. you got some kind of monster there. also it doesnt look anywhere near close to good breeding stock it doesnt look bushy at all i dont know what plant your looking at. could be a true herm or something with some kind of mutations maybe or some kind of serious stress?

Ed rosenthal (and several others) say these are the males you really want to keep. I had one and still have the pollen from it. I also used its pollen for my Frozen Mystery. Also, this plant of yours from seed? If so I'd say it has some ruderalis genetics in there. But I'd think kens would breed that out?! Ruderalis plants are what is used for auto flowering genetics.

It was normal in every way before I chopped it. I cut it off low, just a few inches above the dirt so was left with a short stump. Didn't get around to dumping the whole thing and it started growing again. New branch grew out from the stump and this is what you see now. So yeah, you can say it was severely stressed. Here's a pic of them when they were still small (about 3 feet tall). This plant is the one marked MALE in RED.

OK, this is what he looks like now. I know he's a little crispy. Keep in mind I put the pots under the potting table after chopping them (out in the greenhouse) and forgot about them. A few weeks later I saw green growing under there and pulled them back out. So he didn't get any water for quite a while. I gotta say they are tough plants, can't kill these boys! It does have some regular fan leaves (though small and dried out). Just the new leaves up top are strange. But then everything going on with this boy is strange right now. I hit him with his own pollen 2 days ago and the pistils are looking like it took. There's new pistils starting to show on lots more flowers though.

Oh so you basically revegged him. That'll make the growth look like a clone. Then once they get going they revert to looking normal. Wasn't high enough when I read your original explanation...sorry.
But yeah, I'd say use his pollen man. If ed, dj short and others want them for use, so should we.

I think that's awesome and if that guy gives you seeds ill be impressed.
It seems like he wasn't happy enough with the first time around so this time he/she wants to make it up to you.

that is a REAL hermie right there, man trust me you dont want those seeds, i would pull it! no reason to keep it unless you are just learning but man if its around any females it will FUC# them up you dont want those genetics in ANY of your plants! good luck and one love!

I was pretty happy first time around with him, got tons of pollen! Been gardening all my life and I've seen some weird stuff but I have to admit cannabis is in a class by itself. Seems it tries to impress us or freak us out whenever it can. Maybe it just knows we are a curious species and it wants to keep us interested? I've always believed our 2 species belonged together. Why else would it try so hard to make us happy? And we bust our asses trying to keep it happy! Sounds like a good marriage to me.

Thanks PeaceGrow, I was thinking the same thing. If it's a TRUE hermie, sure don't want those genes in my greenhouse. Got lots of pollen I probably won't use now. Brought him inside the house to keep him completely seperate. Just seeing what he does for now.

Why does Ed Rosenthal recommend keeping them, and who else says so?


In my first grow ever, (6+ years ago) I got a male Kali Mist (Serious Seeds Co.) that started throwing tons of pistils.

Chopped it immediately, but it had already pollinated my others including what has turned out to be one of my all-time keepers, Eldorado by Nirvana Seed Co.

Eldorado became extinct in the market before I wised up and decided I had better get some more seeds. Gone from everywhere, and Nirvana said its parents were gone too...


I have been cloning off one female for years, but really mourning the fact that if I ever have to move, I may lose my very first favorite.

Then I realized that I have a few seeds from something that is 50/50!

Eldorado x Kali Mist!

Grew some out, found a robust male, and by crossing back to my original, I am up to 87% Eldorado and headed for 93!

That robust male however was quite skunky and one of the nice things about Eldorado is that it had (has) no hint of skunk and has a very unusual and (to me) amazing and wonderful smell. Reminds me of stuff I used to get 40 years ago!

So I decided to see if maybe one of my seeds (ElxKM)would yield a male that had no skunk to it, and lo and behold, I now have a male that is throwing a few pistils.

I was about to chop it also and then thought maybe I should do a bit of research first.

And here we are.

Hey Pistilero, what's good? I've been a little busy and saw I had a notification so i'm sorry if this came too late!? Hope not!

We keep these mighty shemales (i dont call these hermies but they are in fact a form of hermie) due to the fact that they produce better results with the traits we're looking for whether that is better trike production, disease resistance, bud formation and thc content (or all of the above which is often the case); they tend to make better ladies in every way possible.

Almost everyone who DOES get one seems to do as you and chucks them away. Lol, don't! If your plant only puts off a few sacs with these hairs, do a side by side comparison when pollinating and see the difference for yourself.

Another thing I have noticed is that they tend to be the first seeds to crack as if they have a dire need to live.

If you are still around then I would like to learn more on the topic.
I have a few Coal Miner's Daughter reg going on right now by Gnome Automatics. I have this one pheno that was very first to sprout and fastest growing of all in terms of number of nodes. It revealed sex on day 12 and on day 14 the first pollen sac was open. Today is day 19 and it is in flowering node with sacs opening.
Today on day 19 I noticed one pistil on one side of a node. From the very first day I had made the decision of selecting this particular pheno for its growth (be it female or male). But now it's become a lot more trickier after spotting the pistil.
I have another male plant starting to reveal sex and maybe I will have a few more revealing sex soon. None of the females have shown sex yet and I have to decide if I am going too keep him or not before the females start flowering.
Just wondering if I have gold or not?

One picture is day 12 and other is day 19.

Im of the opinion if your breeding you kill mutants and herms be they male or female others may disagree but if you care about stability and vigour then yes of course
