differences between dwc and ebb-n-flow

ok, I am on my third grow with white widow. the first i harvested way to late and didn't dry it correctly to boot, then tried to cure it in plastic instead of glass and needless to say it sucked! the second one was harvested on time but had a lil bit of bud rot, but we caught it in time. dried it in a bud dryer designed by albfuct ( thanks al) in about 3 days and it's curing in glass canning jars in the dark now for about 2 days.
the third is about 10 days away from finishing now and looks and smells wonderfull.

by the way #1 was white widow, #2 was bag seed and #3 is w.w. clones from the first batch.

so my question/problem is....

when the first ones were in veg thay stank to high heaven and when they flowered this wonderfull fruity aroma was coming from them but once harvested and dried there was no smell even resembling pot. and yes i know about the chlorophyl grassy taste and that wasn't it, it was simply lacking in flavor and smell of any kind. but i screwed up the first one as i mentioned b-4 so i chalked it up to an oops or 3 on my part. but then on my second batch of an unrelated strain the exact same thing happened no smell in flowering and i'm waiting on the cureing to see if it gets better but i fear it wont.

i'm still using the dwc set up but have got the grow set up completlly to match up albfucts s.o.g. just waiting on this 3rd one to finish. if i go to the ebb-n-flow will all of this change? i mean is dwc that hard on taste and smell? i have never seen or heard of this b-4 so i'm freakin out with a 6000.00 investment thus far!!! please help any advice or insults are welcome

please help guys and gals....i just need to know if deep water culture strips the damn plant of flavor and scent, cause curing's not helping and i've had lots of hydro in the past that was similar. now the high is amazing but customers are easily scared off by the lack of smell and taste!

Hmm very interesting i think you need to perfect your curing process.... you said you had problems both the first and second time, i think you need a read up on curing and follow some instructions to a T (ie glass not plastic). Honestly i don't think that a DWC would effect the plants smell and taste. My first line of questions would be the nutes you used, kind, amount, did you flush prior to your harvest?

i have the third in glass and it's only been 3 days and the smell and taste has dramatically improved but still no pot smell-n-taste.
the nutes were floranova series from gh and i used flouralicious vitamin complex and kool bloom. thet smelled great on the vine so-to-speak.
these nutes are organic and i ran my flowering around 1400ppm with a ph of 5.8-6.0
and yes i flushed them for about 2 weeks b-4 harvest the first time and about 1 week prior to the 2nd...now i'm gonna test the current cure batch again on saturday so it'll be a week solid curing.
and the next batch up are gonna be harvested right on time. (got the pocket 420 scope)

ya ww is right, i'll sample again on saturday after a full week curing...i have worked out all the kinks and am doing it all right now...just kills my brain about the scent and taste. the scope is wonderful...kinda like buying a hot tub, you think....how the hell did i ever live without this thing! i'll keep you posted as i wanna keep this thread up till someone can figure out the prob.

No need to flush for 2 weeks in a DWC or any hydro system, fyi. About four days are good. I also have a DWC setup and have experienced exactly what you are talking about. After a couple of weeks in the Jars you will get your smell. Its about the time the stems change from green to more of a brownish color.

I wish they had some smell o vision so I could share the beautiful smell that erupts from my jars now... ~

It is seriously some of the weirdest sh*t. Smelled awesome on the plant, smelled good while drying with a touch or so to the bud, then once dried enough to put in the jar, no smell for 2-3 weeks for me.

ya, mine has simply got no smell at all at any point during...well not no smell just not pot smell!! but the harshness is gone and the high is wonderfull

hot damn and yipee and so forth the 3rd time was a charm these beauties are wonderfull in smell taste ,trics .....just perfect and wow what a high!!

funny/cool thing though...i did a side by side comparison of 2 jars. one was cured for a week or so and the other was sampled and smoked out of daily and when the cured bud was smoked....no noticable difference at all! i'm sure that will ruffle a few feathers but thats what happened.

This might sound like a whacky question, but do you remember what pH you were running at during flower, especially the last few weeks? I've had some experience with the same thing and I'm not sure if pH was the only factor... but as soon as I figured it out and dialed it in... I got the danky dank strong smell back in my in my harvested buds.

well the 2nd batch was run at about 6.5 the whole time, and the last batch was run at a constant 5.8-6.0...i bought a ph meter finally so i keep up with it more now. thanks for the reply

Okay so check this out, my harvest before last I had a similar issue with lack of that typical dank smell from my buds. My logs show that I was running a relatively high pH range @ 5.9-6.1. Then in my last grow I was running at a similar range and noticed the same thing... lack of smell in the middle of flower. I noticed this time though, that there was a strong smell durning veg, when I was battling pH swings. Because the pH would rise so much day to day, I was lowering the pH to 5.1 and letting it rise to around 5.9 over a 24 hour period. Then by mid flower the pH was stable at around 6.0... so I left it... but the oder was gone. So on a whim I started lowering my pH down to 5.2-5.5 and low and behold the smell came back!

Now I can't say with any certainty that this was the one and only determining factor, I know lots of people run high-range pH grows producing heavenly aromatic buds. This was just my experience and wanted to share.
