I still think a few fans will cut the mustard. Try that before you fuck with your AC thermostat.
fans work if a room is 85 and you want it at 82. When your talking heat like she is talking then you need to remove the heat from the room and dump it outside, which is what a/c does.

It just depends on where you are, how hot your room is and whether your willing to fix it if its a problem. If you decide that its definitely to hot, then i would not hesitate for a second to rig up some ac. Youll just have to make a decision.

One thing you might try is closing every AC vent in the house except for the room you're growing in (I'm assuming central AC) and maybe one near the thermostat (to try and avoid needing to manually cycle the AC). They also make magnetic covers you can stick over a vent to help seal it off. I've seen them at the hardware store.

Just an idea.
Well, hi there Hawk, you can not close of more then 30% of the vents without causing the coil to ice up:mrgreen:, a coil needs a certain amount of airflow in order to dissipate the temperature drop, otherwise it will ice up.

You can cut your ac some by doing the following:
Duct from a supply duct (use insulated flex) to your intake (grow room) move the t-stat into your grow room (you can get one of the movable ones) that way the ac will not have to reach target temp in the whole house but instead only in the grow room.
This will probably cost you about $250 if you do the work yourself.
You can add $ 200 to it and get portable ac (the way to go:mrgreen:)

Happy growing mate!

Hey, What are your temps at night? I knew I was going to run into the summer with my present grow. It was grow or wait another 6 months till cool weather comes back around. SO I AM into flower now and have my timer set to go on at 8PM and off at 8am. I just have problems with humidity. With summer comes high humidity. When it gets too hot and turn on window rattlers I put fans infront of my grow room and shoot air under the door to get humidity down in the grow room. Just an idea!

Sound warnings about future fuck ups is probably the best thing about this site.

Lord knows it has saved my ass a few times.
