Guns don't kill people, gun owners kill people.

re: point #1 - you're wrong...
Agreed. He could have left that out. It really is still a mixed bag of facts about this, in Aus. Sort of a wash and it is fine by most anyway, and the ones that ignored it, still do.

That didn't really fit into the list, since Australians haven't been rounded up and exterminated lately.

Wall Street Journal says the cost of australia's new gun bans was $500 mill (Us Dollars)

as to the second assertion, the above cited source puts "Gun Homicide" reducing by 3.2% (a shitty ROI) but increase in the criminal use of illegal unregistered weapons is up significantly (stats not given)

further, homicides in general are down 9%, and armed robbery down 33% (not bad) but (uhh ohhh!) assaults are up 40% and sexual assault is up 20%.

to me this speaks of two associated issues:

1: killing the other guy is no longer so easy, for both the perp, and the victim

BUT....

2: those with criminal intent now feel more secure of their safety in their endeavours and are hard at work doin what criminals do, in what has become, for them, a much safer "workplace"

personally i would much rather see more dead perps getting their chalk outlines sketched, and fewer crimes in toto.
I'm not disputing our government spent so much on a worthless endeavour with, as you pointed out, a ROI not worth the time/money etc...

I'm disputing the generalised assertion "crime is up 44-300%" when I know the opposite to be true. This does not mean I support gun control because I do not, barring mil spec. (not LEO) aftermarket items such as SOPMOD kits/suppressors/drum mags etc.

High assault rates have always been an issue here, people drink too much period, but I'd rather duke it out with someone than shoot it out over NOTHING and I've never understood the willingness for people to reach for firearms instead of using their fists in a bar fight etc, barring a life threatening situation...

still havin trouble with the facts, shot at twice, on two non-consecutive occaisions:

1: crackhead next door poppin off at me in my garden when i was around ten years old (prompting my grandpappy to give me a gun and teach me how to use it for effect)

2: shot in the back while at a bar, during a dispute in which i was NOT a participant. i was drinkin at the bar, the fight was at the pool table in the back

and now ya know, again.
Shot in back....that's gotta hurt. Did you get to finish your drink?

I doubt it was really an accident.

You're confusing me with someone else. I am not ignoring you. When you see fit, I asked you a question relating to something you posted.
In the context of our dialogue I was informed that liberals through anti-gun legislation actually caused a huge boom in firearm sales in the south. I was speaking to the home court/issue disadvantage of this kind of politics in the south. The democrats were naïve and it was just my thinking that would be a tough sell added to the complete failure due to the guns flying off the shelves.

Should felons be able to have guns?
Not until paroled. After that ... they're paroled, no?

The part that I am not getting is why liberals hate guns. Take the ACLU .. champion of all civil rights except that pesky one in the 2nd Amendment. No comprendo.

I don't think it is a good idea, after parole they have earned their rights back I feel. It's a risk, but a right as well. If a parolee shot a conservative they would likely????

I don't speak for liberals but guns are a right that have more than just freedom to validate their benefit. They are feared.

lulz.

i got hit with a richet, enough to break my scapula but thats it. considering it was a .38 soft point i consider myself fortunate that is was spent and deformed before striking me.

and no, when you pop off a round in a crowded bar in a fit of pique it's never an "accident" if anybody gets hit.

a felon on parole is prohibited from owning any guns everywhere in the country under the 1968 omnibus crime bill.
thats federal law.

a person having been convicted of a felony is barred ownership of arms until such time as their Civil Rights are restored (in most states thats the full term of imprisonment, including time on parole, + 7 years followed by a petition for reinstatement of rights, predicated on no further crimes since the one for which he was imprisoned.)

possession of a gun by any felon who has not had his full rights reinstated is a felony.

edit: likewise, under the same law no person adjudicated insane can own arms until they have been fully cleared by physicians and in most states they must also petition for reinstatement of their rights.

Which happens in about 0% of the cases.

You read that from an Agenda rag. A talking point handed to you. Martha Stewart is "felon."If you knew of the gigantic pile of non-violent crimes that constitute felony, perhaps you could think more clearly.

The Agenda has even managed to queer the word felon. Covering your ass is a felony level crime.

And what about paying your debt to society fair and square? And what about DUI? Not a Felony, in all cases. but DUI killers often have a string of DUI conviction.

Pot possession is a felony.

I have gone thru this about pot. Getting your civil rights restored will let you vote and serve on a jury. The felony must be expunged, or pardoned to legally own a gun, in this State. And it doesn't matter if you spent a day in jail or not. It is what the guy with no lawyer could have gotten.

So, a felon for nothing with no time served will bar me forever from potecting my family at home?

I'm not that stupid. I'm an American.
