Dehimidifier recalls!!!

I have the new Soleus Air 70pt made by Gree. The old model is on the list, but when I called them they said they wouldnt take mine back because its not on the recall list.
Could it be dangerous and just too new to have reported problems?
I dont really see any others locally that would work for me. Most, if not all of them have been recalled from hd and lowes

I bought a few flame defenders just because of chinese dehumidifiers! Might as well put my ballasts near by and call it a day
Im starting to think everyone with a grow room should have flame defenders.

I don't yet, still just have a standard fire extinguisher (does everybody have one of those at LEAST?), but I'll be getting them in a week or two for sure.

i also checked my dehumidifier, it's not on the list. Thanks for posting it

Check ebay for the flame defenders. A few people offer package deals.
I ended up with 2 free 12kg units because they sent me an empty tank. I asked for a refund for both units and they told me to keep them and they would refund me.
They charged a $25 hasmat fee for shipping through amazon so I guess it wasnt worth it.
The 12kg unit seems too heavy for me to hang up above so I took the refund and bought a 4 pack of the 2kg units off ebay. They should be here before I get my room going.
I found a few good deals on the 6kg, but Im not sure I wanna hang that either. The 2kg seem more secure.

An absolute, picture perfect example of why GFCI's should be used on any grow room equipment that has the possibility of an extended run time. Dehumidifiers, circulation fans, air pumps and the likes all pose the same threat on a failure. Electricity only dissipates in one form, Heat!

Thanx for the post fir3dragon.

My Soleus 70 pint was on the list. I followed a few links, typed in my model number and manufacture date, and found out my model was recalled. From there I submitted my name, address, and phone number, was given a reference number, and told my return kit would be arriving soon. Here's hoping this process is relatively painless.

A GFCI will NOT protect against circuit overloads, short circuits, or shocks!
In the event of a ground fault a GFCI will trip and quickly stop the flow of electricity to prevent serious injury.
You can still be shocked if you touch the wires while standing on a non-conducting surface, such as a wood floor.

I think its more likely for a GFCI to trip out of nowhere and shut down your grow than it is to stop a fire.
Correct me if Im wrong, but I think the idea of the GFCI is if theres something wrong somewhere you dont get shocked by touching metal thats exposed or if you have water on the floor.
After reading the instructions that came with my outlets I dont think they will do much for a dehumidifier thats overheating?
I think I want to install a GFCI breaker for my light controller though

A GFCI measures the current going out the hot against what is coming back to the neutral, if it doesn't match that means current is flowing elsewhere and it will trip.

The recall deals with 2.2 million units, which 165 of them have been reported as having issues, 46 of those issues ending in fire meaning .01% of the units have malfunctioned. Regardless, that is 1 fire too many.
