Inline fan question

I'm getting ready for my first apartment grow, where obviously odor and noise are a major concern. I've seen duct silencers and carbon filters seperately attached to inline fans; my question is can i do both? I'm not sure what setup I'm going to use exactly, and now I'm debating getting a silent fan vs a duct silencer and weighing the costs of each. One of my options is to get a possibly louder fan, hook up a carbon filter on one side and a duct silencer on the other side of the fan. If this can be done, what side do I put each on? Thanks in advance

Not exactly what your asking but what I do is I have my carbon filter ducted to my hood, my hood ducted to my 440cfm inline fan and that ducted out of the room. I use all insulated flex duct and its pretty quiet, i can here my 2 oscilating fans more than my duct fan.

What kind of fan are you using? Do you think if I got insulated flex duct and did nothing else for noise I'd be okay? I'm trying to figure out how well they work, first time I've heard of it honestly

Hdrofarm active air 6" is what I use. You can get them pretty cheap on ebay, you can also get a speed controller, iv heard they will quiet em down also but iv never needed one. I also suspend my fan from the ceiling with a bungee cord so it doesnt vibrate. The insulated duct is great, comes in 25' lengths at home depot and quiets everything down a lot. I run mine 24/7 and its maybe 5' from my bed

Same fan used here. I don't hang mine, but it's a smart idea and effective from what I've read.
Noise isn't a concern for me really, but the insulated duct does help for sure, and the duct muffler is amazing.
Duct mufflers can be made easily for cheap. The fan will be fine if you hang it. If not, you can insulate that too.

When hooking up ventilation like this, always try to PULL air instead of pushing it. The only thing your fan should ever blow into is a duct muffler.
There's some air being pushed through some ducting in my grow because shit happens, but try to stick to the ideal as much as possible.
You want your fans to suck, not blow.

Iv got my carbon filter attached to the intake of the fan, duct muffler to the outake of the fan, and then to my hood, then to a 2nd hood, then out the window.
Its pretty quiet. All my equipment is from htg, growbrite fan and speed control n muffler. Htg standard flex ducting but that insulated stuff deff helps reduce noise more

Interesting.. I was told the opposite when I bought my equipment

I guess its a debate like 18/6 vs 24. Never a winner... I was told to set it up blowing to reduce heat buildup in the fan motor. Im sure it works either way, mine works as I had hoped, takes away all the smell, most of the heat, and isnt loud.

Yeah that's what I was just reading and why I edited my comment. Looks like that has more to do with large, multi KW grows and venting all those hoods. That's a whole different ball game though man. For more DIY kind of grows, I still believe in pulling air over pushing it. But you're right, either will work. My way is just better. :-) haha

And uh, 18/6...duh! :-)

Pulling works best for me, seems like it keeps everything seeled better, only leak iv had has been the last joint from the fan to the out take. Oh yeah...20/4
