Help!

So me and my uncle are sitting here smoking and talking, well were stuck on a topic. I have heard by many different growers that the tip of the buds have the most thc in the plant and will get you higher. He thinks otherwise. Can someone please tell me if I'm wrong or if I'm right?

Thanks! :3

Listen to your uncle, there is literally nothing to scientifically back that up.
Sure, a Kola is usually the biggest because it is receives more lumens and heat closer to your light source...
but that is assuming a bunch of things, like No SCROG... Or even Vertical growing.

Jane we are back to the tip of my penis again. How many times have you posted this question on this forum?

You're wrong and right.

First of all, I've never seen any evidence, nor even heard anyone claim before that the ends of individual buds (flower clusters) are more potent than the bases of the same bud. While at a mathematical level its probably true that some part of an individual bud is stronger than another part, the difference between different flowers on the same exact bud is going to be utterly insignificant.

On a more branch-oriented level, yes, it is true that when grown outdoors the apical (top) buds generally are the most potent in terms of cannabinoid content, with lower buds being somewhat less potent.

The issue comes that when grown indoors, growers use a number of tricks to ensure that all of their buds are phenotypically apical.

Some may grow "sea of green" style, trimming off all lower and side growth so each plant only makes one cola, and there is no lower-potency bottom growth. Some will top plants and train them, effectively making multiple tops each one of which is "dominant".

So for indoor grows, this rule may not apply.

Just from a purely observational point of view, I have noticed that on many varieties that the tip top tends to be the last to finish (if ever completely) and the lowers seem to plump and ripen the resin sooner. I have always felt like the nugs a third the way down seem to be the most ripe and potent IMHE.

100% agreed. That's been my observation as well

I've seen this as well.

I think this is more the case with sativas and sativa dominant hybrids, where the tops seemingly just want to keep growing forever.

I actually just harvested a diesel-indica hybrid plant that was a bit deceptive this way. The outer buds on the top colas looked immature, but the inner buds were actually quite a bit riper, with dark pistils and more mature trichromes. A good lesson is that when evaluating readiness, you have to really look closely at the whole plant. Here is a picture of said plant. You can kind of get a sense of what I'm talking about if you look at individual flower clusters/buds:

^^^ glad I'm not the only one who has found finicky diesels, I have had some struggles doing diesel runs b/c of food schedule and duration of flowering and they looked like the one posted above. I vote for those buds towards tops that get shielded a lil from the intense light but arent totally blocked as the most crusty. Like the ones under the main cola.
