Veg with HPS

Good job and nice pics. However, your veg would be much "branchier" and "bushier" with more of a blue spectrum. If I had to choose one bulb for veg and flower it would be Philips CMH.

Lol.

Those plants were heavily pruned and trimmed 3 times during the grow.

I used to use MH for a while and got tired or swapping shit around for no real benefit.


Don't get me wrong if you veg excessively with hps you can get elongated node structures etc but I'm talking about +10 week veg times.

One of my favorite go-to authorities on growing is...The Cannabis Grow Bible. Old-school, I know, but it's never steered me wrong and I test the info I find in it against experienced growers' perspectives all the time. When I first did my set-up I of course looked at lighting and chose 400W MH for veg and 400W HPS for flowering and never looked back.

I just reread the section -- when you have a choice (financial or supply), then MH for veg and HPS for flowering. If not, you can flower under MH and you can veg under HPS.

I haven't looked at all the photos posted in this thread, but unless someone is showing you the same strain grown under MH and HPS to demonstrate growth differences, I wouldn't put too much stock in a claim that one kind of light "makes" short or tall without knowing the genetics of the plant.

I'm gonna mess u all around and say you get the best growth from "dual" spectrum!
I've used a 150MH and 250W HPS together in veg system in a 3"x3" tent.
I got better growth than with both HPS or both MH....

Without knowing what will work the first time, most of us just hear MH/HPS... CMH... MH for veg... HPS for all... first off, this ain't a chubby measuring contest, so keep those dixie cups with year old plants under raps.... Use what works... and as this thread attests, lots of lights works just fine... Has anyone ever said:
"I grow with two 1000 watters... ones a MH and one's a HPS.... they both grow like shit... " That would never happen..... and the reason why? Proper light gives you a proper and correct large plant... Find a light....
Refine your grow abilities....
Then enjoy your fruits...
There are millions of variables in growing... soil/water/hydro/lights/etc/veg time/strain/etc.....

I look at pictures of professional grow rooms and many have a mix of MH and HPS. I'm running a 400w MH with a 600w HPS on a light mover along with various floros lighting up the sides. I in the middle of my first grow with this light set-up, but so far it seems the plants like the lighting.

Or you could just use a 400w Philips CMH. I agree on the full spectrum.

I would not want it more bushy.
I had a similar plant and moved the hps up about a foot to help the plant stretch. It was too bushy.

if you want to go after someone, you should try someone besides jondamon, the guy crushes it and probably yields more with a 400 watt than you could with a 600 watt.

Yeah I just went on the site and noticed since you said something...bummer. Those 810w CDMs look interesting tho. Don't mind what ugly said...def not trying to go after you. Especially after checking out your sig ;)

Trousers was just meaning for you to look at some of my threads I think. He probably didn't mean anything by it.


If you want to talk serious lighting look at the PHILIPS GAVITA series.

My grow shop guy swears by his. He's been growing near on 30years.

I would love one but they only come in 600 and 1000.


Not sure of CDM? Is that the "crisp white sparkling light" one that's on their site?

Phillips are only discontinuing certain models of CMH. Other models are being repackaged (and re-priced). GE and other brands are making them now , too. A Phillips CMH produces a far superior spectrum to an eye hortilux, with twice the life and at less than half the cost. I do believe that standard HPS and MH will be phased out over the next decade, as the CMH, plasma, and induction lights technology advances. If you've never tried CMH then you are SERIOUSLY missing out! You can use it for the entire grow as it is basically a MH and HPS combined in one bulb. I am already seeing the price go up on them as more growers/growshops realize the horticultural value of these bulbs. I am almost certain that this is the reason for the repackaging.

Your strain will determine what light to use. Indica dominant stuff, (shorter fatter plants) veg better under HPS than MH.
Sativa dominant stuff, (taller and skinnier) should veg under an MH.
Simple rule
