Take for example last winter when a user told a mod that he wanted to rape her just to see the pain in her eyes. Don't you think that mod wanted to take action against the offender to what I seen as going too far? Dude got to stay.
The offender of which you speak should be shot, but since that's probably not feasible, he should obviously be banned. It's a good thing when moderators don't take things personal and have a thick skin but there are obvious limits. If moderators are open targets of course they are going to be hesitant when it comes to moderating members equally...Edit: forgot the nr 1 rule: never ever tolerate any shit towards moderators from members that were warned, that is what empowers them to enforce the rules equally.
Clayton speaks of hall monitors and people always seem eager to mention censorship, but as per the definitions I posted earlier, a moderator without authority simply is not a moderator. A forum without moderators is... trollitup.
