Odor control questions

Ok so, I'm going to be setting up my grow room in my bedroom's closet.. The closet is 6'lx 7'w x8'h and I'm worried about the smell, I live in a city with close neighbors and I live with the grandparents.. I'm not worried about them stumbling upon the plants, because I have the door barricaded with a probably 300 pound bookshelf that I can hardly move myself.. IM not worried about moving it every day, but I'm worried about the smell attracting the grand parents.. Obviously ill probably have to get a strain that isn't reputable for it's strong scent (such as skunk) and I'm worried about the smell being detected from any leaks into the house with me opening the door and such.. I have an active carbon air filter, I don't know what size it is, but it looks about 2' long.. I'm planning on attaching an inline squirrel cage fan with the output attatched to the filter so that it pulls air from the room and into the filter and then evenly distributed from the small pores of the filter so that there isnt a concentrated stream of air blowig in the room.. unless that would be better? what do yall think? the most ill have is 4 plants in heavy bloom, will this be enough to rid the smell entirely..? Or should I add more to kill the smell? What rating fan should I get? (Cubic feet per min) because I know that for the rooms exhaust I should find the cubic feet of the room and then multiply however many times a min to flush the room, but since there is a drag of the moving air because of the active carbon filter, how much more should I increase the cf/m of the fan? Also ill be setting up my exhaust in the ceiling for heat, into the attic, and the intake lower in the wall.. Since hot air rises and cold is lower..

Ill have a 400w hid with air cooling through it (it's own intake& exhaust) and then the rooms regular intake and out take.. Will I have to put another carbon filter to the rooms exhaust? Or could I hang the carbon filter next to the exhaust so that it's kinda sucking some clean air but not completely?

also, is there any way that I can use a different scent similar to the strength of cannabis that I can use to test everything out? It would suck to go and spend a bunch of money on a set up and putting forth all the efforts to have to put the babies to rest before they even produce anything because the smell is too strong..

And what does everyone know about negative ion generators? Are they worth usin in my bedroom to try and mask any leaked smell? (Won't be putting in the grow room directly with plants) also what ones are best? What negative ion output would be enough to suffice? I've seen readings such as like several millions per squared centimeters? Can anyone tell me what they know about this or redirect me to somewhere that has already had these questions?

it aint right to grow in someone elses house if they're not down with it. How'd you feel if gramma and grandpas house got raided??

how old are you? are you allowed to be doing this in your grandparents home?
i would suggest this is a poorly thought out idea.

I'm not here to judge your situation and you dig your own holes but man really? The only for sure way to eliminate the smell 100% is to implement an ozonator. JAS

I would listen to everyone on here and just wait and not do this in your grandparents house.

Do not screw with your grand parents, it sounds like they are doing you a favor in the 1st place. Wait until you can afford your own place, and then put yourself at risk, not them. Get a job, move out, and then do whatever your heart desires. Peace

If you're in their house and they don't know then do not grow it makes you a dick and you can cost them their home, their bank accounts, cars, and freedom. Do not just vent into the attic alone as your putting hot humid air up there which will cause mold issues and if you create black mold your in trouble and will require a huge medical issue. The smell will be strong in a small area like a closet especially during flower and really strong during chop and dry. First thing is if they don't know then do not grow.

Bet you were not expecting this kind of response from a bunch of growers? I think you get the picture.

Buy your bud until you have your own place and then grow, grow, grow.

Truly disgusting what you're doing. Your grand parents don't have to take care of you and what thanks do they get?

Damn okay lol point made..! Ill wait it out, but growing is just so addictive and being so eager doesn't help. And I help the grand parents out with money all the time, there's been multiple times I've paid electric, water and other bills along with helping out with groceries and what not.. Not tryina claim to be a saint, but I help allot. I actually set up the electricity plan to switch over to a local electric company that has this plan where the nights are free, was planning on using cfl's for vegging and what not and then use the hps 12/12 on during night and off during the day so there wouldn't be an increase in price too much, besides fans and air pumps.. Also the way I viewed it was that I wouldn't get caught because I planned on lining the walls with ir resistant film and covering my tracks the best I can and hope that they wouldn't target a low time grower. Ill try to find an area to guerrilla grow.

Guerrilla growing is the way to go. Your grandparents will hear or feel the fans if they're both deaf. Chopping holes in their ceiling, molding up their house, and exposing them to arrest or loss of their home is no way to repay them for giving you a home.

Because you don't personally know me or what kind of person I am. I gave off the wrong vibe and I was a little stubborn and too eager to get going that I didn't consider all that everyone here had to say.. So you prob think I'm the kinda person I'm really not.

Yeah it is exciting to grow your own but it wouldn't be great if your grand-parents got busted because of your youthful exuberance now would it? Imagine the look on their faces.

Spend some time scouting for a spot to guerrilla grow. Do NOT tell anyone or show anyone your grow spot [I've seen many friendships lost over plants]. My last girlfriend of three years didn't know I grew. And now that we're not together I'm so glad I never told her.
Nearly every outdoor grower I've known, that has put in considerable time reconnoitering their grow spots, have been able to use the same location year after year. The only guerrilla growers Ive known to get caught were either greedy [heaps of plants bunched together that stick out like dogs balls from police choppers] or just plain stupid.

Hope you find yourself a safe spot to grow. Good luck.

You might be right fella. For all we know maybe your a big help to your grandparents and maybe they're even glad to have you around. You did get bashed pretty good for your enthusiasm. But in the end its true that it isn't right to expose them unwittingly to that kind of danger.
Good luck and let us know what you've decided to do.

Why do I get the feeling that your smell proofing your room as we speak?.....
because you grew at your parents house just like me. I only started outdoor plants though my brothers dumb ass got caught he had a few plants in his snake cage. lol, needless to say I learned a lot from my brothers fuck ups. I was always the good kid cause I never got caught. :bigjoint:

Now that's a good idea. I run a stealth grow and with all the time and money I sank into it, I still have to be extremely aware of all my equipment and the by-products of growing (smells, humming from motors, vibrations, electricity, bags of soil and amendments, water cans, list goes on and on). There is a lot involved and any one of those things can get your stealth grow exposed.

It's great that you help out your grandparents. Continue to be a great grandkid and grow outside their home. Good luck and sorry for all the backlash. It's just that we have seen it repeated before by other growers on here many times! It would be hard to earn back their trust after that, ya know?
