Cold temps..help!!

During lights out my temps are starting to dip into the 40's, today my temp gauge recorded 43f as a low, and 72f (lights on) as a high, and the weather here is only going to get colder. I'm around the 47th parallel. I had to imprevise on a grow room till now and till the last few days my temps have been perfect.

The other thing is that in the next dday or so I now have to take an unexpected 10-14 day vacation away from home, so for now their is nothing I can do about the temps for like 2 week. I can't get a heater on a timer while I'm gone cause my girlfriend is paranoid about leaving a heater in their while I'm not around.
When I get back I am completely making a new grow room in a totally different location, and gettings eeverything I need and construction to have perfect atmospheric conditions. I was planning on doing this very soon but I have to leave unexpectedly.

Will my plants be okay for 14 days tops with these kind of cold temps? I estimate that temps will even ppossibly get down to 35f (iinside room), maybe.
I heard from an experience grow that it would be fine, even lower that in nature that it's actually frost that kills it not cold. I know that the cold may stunt their grow for now and growth not be optimal but I just don't want them to die. Like I said when I get back theyll be okay then with great temps ad all.

Does anyone know if my plants can survive this? Any help would be greatly appricated! Thanks.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Well a small heater fan and timer are the simpliest. You could use an electric blanket on a timer. have it around the pots and have it come on 2 hours before lights off to keep the root system warm.

I can't do this, I have to leave as it, period. I don't have time to get anything.

I also already am running lights at night. 6pm to 6am. 1 1/2 weeks flowering.

get a heat mat or 2 or 3. they make ones meant for growing and they're water proof. you can even put them on a controller to have them turn on/off depending on the temp. i use 1 in my veg room in the wintertime because it's in a colder part of my house.

i use those radiator style electric heaters and they seem pretty safe. they use a lot of juice though. as long as your breaker isnt faulty which is very rare, your breaker will trip if too much juice flows thru. fires happen from having those electric heat sources too close to something flammable or having them tip over without the safety feature to auto shut off. the other way fires happen are from shorts. if your hot wire inside the device get disconnected but has a small gap, it can arc creating heat. that arc can catch stuff on fire inside if it gets hot enough. if your using extension cords, make sure they're rated for the amperage going thru them.

So you just said it yourself "I Have to leave as it, period" When you come back you will know if they survived or not.

Nobody's answered yet so I'll take a stab. We grow outdoors and experimented this year with leaving some bud outside in the rain and cold for a late harvest. It got down to 28 degrees more than once in that 10 day period, they got wet, they hardly got any sunlight because the sun had dropped so low behind the hill that the trees shaded my garden. I'm about the 42nd parallel on the north side of a hill at about 1300 ft. elevation in southwestern Oregon (not the coast). My hill rises behind me on the south and blocks a lot of sun in spring and fall, not to mention winter!

The plants remained healthy and didn't seem affected by the cold temps, maybe because they didn't linger long in the 20's. The highs for that period were in the 40's and 50's, some sun and pretty wet even when it wasn't raining. I didn't see any signs of frost bite or leaf damage and the plants seemed to be going through a natural aging/dying process, judging by the yellowing leaves. The quick dips into the 20's didn't seem to bother the squash or tomatoes, either, to let you know. Another outdoor grower I met this year told me that cold weather causes the buds to swell up fast to protect themselves against the cold. So maybe a little cold can be a help at the right time.

So, for two weeks, under lights in a closed up room (essentially), with healthy, hearty plants? I'd say chances are good that you will probably not experience any more damage than retarded growth during that two weeks you're gone. Make sure everyone is watered and fed well before you go, too: damp soil is a better insulator against cold than dry soil.

Here are the only pics I have of buds that were harvested in the cold and wet (Oct. 6?) after about two weeks of rain, freezing temps, shade and wind. I took them for future reference in case this delayed harvest turns out to be a good idea :)

100_4489.jpg100_4492.jpg The one on the left is Blue Dream, the one on the right is Kerala Krush, both 90% Sativa. I don't know what you're growing. We chose the sativas over the indicas for this experiment because they were so prolific. We figured that losing a few buds to experimentation was a small price to pay compared to our total harvest. Don't know how they smoke, yet, but I'm eager to try it.

Pretty much sounds like your not asking what you can do just asking if people think they will make it. Indoor and outdoor plants differ in the fact the outdoor plants tend to be larger have deep root systems and are slowly hardened off to temps changes. Indoor you control the temps and humidity and quick drops effect them alot more. I have lost plants at around 35 ish but like you said your not going to do anything to really get around it so just take off and good luck hope for the best.

Yeah I guess I will have to hope for the best. At the least I'm gonna wrap some shit like blankets or somethin around the pots to try to keep the roots as best insulated ad I can.

Just wanted to check and see if their is anyone else out their that has experienced similar tempatures> 35f-42f lights off & upper 60s-72f lights on< in their indoor grow? These conditions are going to be ongoing for like 2 weeks till I get back home
