"black people who are not part of the consensus are shunned by the "Black Community" and called House Nigger, Uncle Tom or Oreo."
It's starting to seem plausible that Dr Kynes is in fact a time lord marooned in the 1970's stuck on the set of the original movie Shaft.

I'd say I sit left of center politically

Keynes' examination is pretty much what I was asking, his "A./B. scenario", from what I interpreted, was pretty much the gist of the post, although I initially didn't posit that the left was entirely responsible, and to be honest, I don't, I think the GOP plays a huge roll as well in the current situation of African Americans, maybe not in the beginning, but absolutely today.

Is it programs put in place by politicians or is it black people themselves?

Obviously, because I don't consider myself racist, I'd say it's the former (along with Keynes), I think black people, and indeed, ALL PEOPLE are capable of achieving what the 1% (namely, white Americans) in America are capable of achieving. I believe it is programs put in place by members of the American government that have either held them back entirely or successfully inhibited them from the same levels of success as the American white man. Keep in mind, I AM an American white man. This conclusion has nothing to do with politics or race.

Crack v. Cocaine is a situation that demonstrates this. 99 times more time for crack than cocaine when they're essentially the same substance (only crack is cheaper, which means easier for impoverished populations to obtain than cocaine).

IMO, black people (minorities) are held down because the system in place holds them down, not because they are worse human beings, or somehow less than the rest of civilized society. They start off with a disadvantage, and live their life accordingly. Some of those disadvantages are the result of the way the rest of us live our lives, and the weak among us refuse to admit it or do anything about it, perpetuating the same system they bitch and complain about.

black people are not really "held down" in any way nowadays, besides by the legacy of a time when they once were. and that's a holdover from the past, not a current thing in place because "the system" wants to "hold them down". we now struggle with de facto segregation into poorer neighborhoods at rates which are still very disproportionate to other parts of the population, not segregation as an official law.

it wasn't very long ago that blacks were systematically and institutionally "held down" in america, but those days are over.

can you even name one way in which blacks are still, by law, "held down"?

They start off with a disadvantage, and live their life accordingly. Some of those disadvantages are the result of the way the rest of us live our lives
so "They [black people] start off with a disadvantage", and some of this disadvantage is "the result" of the same things as us other people, and how we "live our lives".

i highlighted some words in an attempt to highlight the fact that starting off and the result of how we "live our lives" are incompatible.

blacks do more often start off with at a major disadvantage, which is the legacy of centuries of persecution, but the poverty cycle is a bitch, no matter how we live our lives. the poverty cycle is a bitch no matter what color your skin is.

and the weak among us refuse to admit it or do anything about it, perpetuating the same system they bitch and complain about.

I have to be honest, i was genuinely not sure if the thread was serious or not
since i find the initial question to be a "leading question"
i also find it hard to relate to as a concept, i think that is likely because i am not from the USA
sorry i can't answer your original question since i have no experience of your society

coming from the UK this type of question i think would itself be considered racist by some here, any thing said about black folk must be said very carefully
when the police released statistics stating that most street robbery's are committed by black folk it caused a giant storm in a t-cup
also i really do not feel we have the same kind of race segregation as you do in the usa, although we do have some areas that have mostly black folk in
the poor people here are mostly all mixed together and are many different races but mostly white

but i think we do have an equal amount of hatred/prejudice as you do in the usa but here its aimed at "poor people" or people without jobs, folk are not so worried what skin colour
but if you are seen as a "scrounger" on welfare etc folk or society want these people to feel "shamed" or to feel that they are losers

so i think the question here would by, "why can't lower class poor people" assimilate themselves into British society or bring themselves out of the poverty trap

peace

black people nowadays generally speaking don't give it their all because "the system" may not have inhibited their will and ambition, but it has deterred spirit and determination. the constant support of government programs used to aid everyone now cripples more than (this is just my estimate) 51% of the black community because they rely on system that is based to feed the needy and lazy crumbs. kids in the hood don't see positivity so they grow up to be no better than their dumbass influences. nor do they see enough black doctors, activists, people that show these kids they can do anything; instead you've got the phoniest thug rappers, drug dealers, and female teen moms forming clubs. me and my friend once referred to this as "coonery-buffonery since we was like the only black kids in the ghetto that were like live action huey and caesar from the boondocks. as for the really "held down" well talk to a black dude in jail for taking the fall for a crooked friend or relative, the unlucky black soldiers who are still POWs in some foxhole, or all the dead young bloods who didn't get to make it to ages 28-32.

Bingo. People are a direct result of their environment, They may grow as a person but they still are affected by their environment.

Really good friend of mine lived in the ghetto, born and raised there, great guy who spoke well , worked hard , ws my apprentice for years because so many of the other guys where racist, anyway, he continued to live there and after 2o years i had lunch with him again and ,,,he still lives down in the hood, hes still a good guy, but,,,,,the way he sees the world has changed, its skewled. Same thing happens in the country, in every neighborhood , we are individuals and we have freedom of thought [to an extent] but our children including many here have been raised on mtv, by the media thats has no ethical or moral value what so ever.

People are people, its funny where i live now everyone hates Mexicans??????? Especially second generation Mexicans , ever heard a Mexican guy reefer to those f ing Mexicans????

Almost Everybody is looking for somebody to hold down, it makes them feel better about themselves.

someone said something similar to what you said but again so true.
just about every person in govt does that to the "terrorists" they've trained, giving birth to the saying one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Racism Or Not is entirely based on whether the observer likes the message or not.

Example:

Brazilians are good at soccer. Not Racist.

Brazilians always put on too much postage. Not Racist

Brazilians make too much bestiality porn. RACIST!!!!!!!!

Germans also make WAY to much bestiality porn. Not Racist, cuz germans are white.

no, it's not.

for example, ben carson is a product of affirmative action, welfare, and food stamps. not racist since it is all based in fact.

contrast with: obama is an "affirmative action" president. racist, since there is no evidence for such an assertion and it can only be based in prejudice and racial resentment.

for example: "niggers" are "like that everywhere". racist, since you clearly have not been everywhere and even if you had, the statement would still not be based in fact.

contrast with: "niggers" are "like that around here". still pretty racist, but at least it is just a simple confirmation based on your own experience (racial slurs aside).

there's nothing to contrast my final example with, but it is something that is clearly racist as white supremacist groups hold it as a purpose statement: "defend REAL AMERICA (dog whistle for christian identity and euro heritage) from the multicultural wasteland of bullshit (not even a dog whistle for blacks, muslims, and immigrants)".

you can keep on crying, kynes. but no one feels the least bit bad about your "plight".

now that you have left the saftey of Portlandia and entered the real world where Multiculturalism will shove itself into your face (along with a 9mm pistol) and demand your wallet, or attempt to shove you off the sidewalk into the street while shouting "REAL NIGGAH WALKING!" at you, to impress his buddies, or sneak up behind you in school and steal a rabbit punch followed by "What Up Now White Boy!" and then YOU get suspended for the ensuing fight, youll soon discover that your precious and mistreated minority treasures are really not nearly as cuddly as TV sitcoms have portrayed them to be.

i will enjoy watching your transformation from Pretentious Sheltered Liberal to Inner City Crime Statistic.

there we go again with the random capitalization.

funny that i notice that more now than the vile dog whistling which composes the majority of your post.

have you even been to downtown san jose? i'm not in some unincorporated outlier that gets falsely counted as san jose, i'm just south of the heart of it. i am where the two colors meet (see below).

so far, i'm loving it here.

all that evil, nefarious multiculturalism brings a lot of multicultural traditions to the mix, food specifically. i might even seek out a chicken and waffles place tomorrow and report back to see if the experience changes me in any way.

maybe my experiences with frequenting the chicken and waffle house in phoenix weren't tragic enough on my developing mind back then. i'll wear some ridiculous colors too just for added trauma potential.

love ya, kynes.
