Quick Update

Here she is at the start of day 8 of 12/12. Just got her first full flower feeding as last feedings were transition feedings.

Let the stretch commence and may she be filled with long dense colas!

IMG_20131024_191740_088.jpg

P.S. She already stinks to high hell and I can't imagine how she'll stink in a few weeks, so I bought one of these AAP-50 (http://www.amazon.com/AAP-50-Plug-In-Adjustable-Purifier/dp/B007Y9RBX4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382706714&sr=8-1&keywords=aap50)

I read some really good reviews on some other grow sites that rave at how well these remove odor and are still safe to run as I know too much ozone is a bad thing.

I'll report back on how the product does in a couple days

I made the mistake of purchasing an ozone generator that was made for doing shock treatments. Makes 9.5 grams of ozone per hour. Commercial units usually only produce 2-4.5 grams an hour. Left it on by accident and woke up with one of the worst headaches of my life.

Good going on the diy cxa leds. They are really nice. I am currently comparing them with the vero line from bridgelux.

The little ozone generator does a great job though. I don't even have it running full power. I think I might get one for my downstairs as well.

I'll have some more pics up later today. She is in full blown stretch mode now

Here she is at the start of day 12 of 12/12. She is growing and flowering fast. Tied down a few branches to even the canopy and gave her some silica to help the branches rebuild as well as some cal/mag and snow storm.

Canopy is pretty dang full. I expect a very nice yield.

Start of day 13 of 12/12. How much more stretch does she have in her?

I also started uv-b supplementation today with my 15W 18" repti-glo 10.0 light running 4 hours continuous during middle of 12/12.

I'm interested to see how a "white" strain reacts to the added uv-b.

Nice grow bb

I'm jealous of you diyers only hooking up a few leds..lol. I spent hours soldering! Can't wait to see the results.

any pics of your far red light? So your running three seperate timers? Far red, uv, main light?

I'm thinking of separating mine in the future, not quite sure yet

Lol. I initially bought $200 worth of cree xm-l whites and xp-e reds and was gonna build a light similar to the area 51s and apaches but then returned all the LEDs and bought the cxa's for 36 a piece.

My far red light is just a GE reveal halogen incandescent. I learned the trick from an old timer. He recommended using a light 25% of total light output.

I do run them all on 3 different digital timers

I have another journal using all three with my old ds100 with great results.

Nice DYI bb!

I'd like to built a fixture myself, with enough power for up 5 girls.

I'd appreciate it if you could humor my theory: Which application do you think would have the best results?

- A fixture with 9 CXA 3050s (mix 2700k & 5000k) or an equal wattage build comprised of 5w colors(330nm-660nm) plus a 50w for main lighting.

Sorry if that sounds confusing. What I'm really getting at is whether or not the CXA 3050 - 2700k (Full Spectrum) will outperform of a cluster of 10 5w specific colored LEDs, like the ones seen in the Diamond Led Fixtures.

I saw your addition of the UV-B as well, a nice touch!

Cheers,
Let.

Honestly, I cannot give you a great answer yet as I am still in my own experiment, so until this grow is complete, I really cannot recommend one or another.

I think if you build a fixture with individual LEDs (unless you get cheap components), then it'll run you much more.

I think the area 51s using cree whites and cree reds does really well, so you could model that build, but use the latest XML-U2 cree whites and get even more output

Also, Cree has just released the CXA3070 and CXA3590, so you might want to look into those as well.

So I found an old memory card and it had some pics of my old scrog setup back in the day. Man, was this some drool or what.

I had 4 diff strains in there (NLxBB,OG #18, Super Lemon Haze, Jack Flash #5)

Yeah tell me about it! If you think hydro is slow you shold try organic soil grows. Like watching paint dry. But i do love the fact that you can just water once a week and forget about it. The coco coir did my head in a bit. Watering every day and checking run off etc. Im definatly a lazy organics low maintenence person

It looks great, how did you make the light exactly? Im a real noob when it comes to leds. Did it work out cheaper than buying something on ebay. Im not sure of the quality of those units really but would like to go down the led path.

Well, my first LED light was a DS100 I bought for $295 a couple years ago, which ended up getting a burnt out LED which made half of them not turn on, so Advanded LEDs sent me a replacement no questions (I did show them a video of my light not working) and they didn't ask me to send back the broken one, so I sold the replacement unit and took apart the broken unit and replaced it with the CXA3050's.

Each CXA3050 was $36 and each driver was $18, so I spent around $108 on the unit I built, but I got more money from the replacement unit I sold ($175), so I made out fairly well.

Yeah, i wasn't a huge fan of straight coco myself (pricey and finicky), so I sought out to learn something else and I learned the simplicity of hempy buckets.

Now I use just perlite and coco and a $20 bag of perlite and a $20 bag of coco go hand in hand for a long time.

The great thing about hempy buckets is you can water them every day if you want, or you can let them go (3-5 days) and have them just drink off the reservoir.

Watering more frequently will obviously encourage faster growth since you are replacing oxygen, but at least I have the flexibility of taking some days off if I need to.

Your avatar pic looks a lot like my old scrog setup with my HPS back in the day. I have a pic in this thread showing it :-)
