is this normal for clone rooting?

I've had this tray going for 6 days now. this is my first time cloning and found it odd that they're sprouting roots above the gro-dan. just want to make sure everything is going ok and maybe get some insight into why they're growing this way. I thought the roots are supposed to come out of the stalk where I took a razor blade to and dipped in clone-x which is below the surface of the gro-dan.

Generally this is what happens, but sometimes mother nature says differently, and you can't argue with her.

uswually means the humidity is high and the rooting material (rockwool) is too wet. The roots cant breathe in the rockwool since its soaked. So they sprout out right above the rockwool where its perfect dampness and it gets air.

thank you for the info, this is what I was looking for. I guess next time I won't be so neurotic with the water, but considering 30 of the 32 made it I can't complain
