Barney's Farm Tangerine Dream

Barney's Farm Tangerine Dream (TD) is the most disappointing strain I've tried im many years. TD takes forever to flower and has light, fluffy airbuds with almost no yield. It does have a bit of a fruity odor, but the smoke lacks potency. This was grown alongside of a half dozen other strains under identical conditions -- 15 gallon fabric pots, mix of Happy Frog+Ocean Forest+Perlite+Coir and fed with phase specific organic tea. Everything else came out just fine, so I doubt if it entailed the "method" -- IMHO the fault is in the genetics. Don't waste your money. In a perfect world, Barney's Farm would pull this from their catalogue, but I'm sure there are folks out there who will purchase based on the written description....it is a gross exaggeration to put it mildly...especially the part about bud density (pants on fire!)

Barneys Farm Tangerine Dream The exceptional crossing of G13 with Neville’s A5 Haze – with the resulting plant again crossed with G13 – Tangerine Dream is sativa-dominant strain offering tangy, intense sweet citrus aromas and flavors as well as effects that are at once cerebral and relaxing. The best of both worlds for smokers and growers. Considering its attributes, Tangerine Dream’s 70-day flowering time is remarkably short, and the one-meter high plants, with their strong and numerous side branches, yield an impressive minimum of 500 grams per square meter. Colas grow large and tight, especially for a sativa-dominant strain, and are flecked with red and orange hairs and frosted with a shimmering layer of fine THC crystals. A taste sensation offering clean and long lasting effects. Tangerine Dream evokes a citrus fruit fantasy and, somehow, an even more enchanting reality. How one strain can offer some many seemingly contrasting attributes is a shining example of how Barney’s Farm is a leading force in advancing genetics and husbandry. This innovative, Sativa-dominant strain starts with the legendary G13 plant, known for it’s intense flavors and strong effects, which is crossed with the unusually refined and exotic Neville’s A-5 Haze. The resulting plant is again crossed with G13. The aesthetic total, however, far exceeds the sum of its genetic parts, as Tangerine Dream offers the visceral sensations of tearing into fresh citrus: a spray of essential oils from the peel with its complex and pleasant bitterness; deep, pungent aromas fill the air, and then, the concentrated, tangy sweet flavor of fruit and juice on the tongue. An experience both refreshing and intense. The large, tight colas – unusually firm and substantial for a sativa-dominant strain – are flecked with orange and red hairs, and frosted with a shimmering layer of THC crystals. A focused, fruit scent, accented with a whisper of earthy, herbal notes, is obvious even before Tangerine Dream is lit. The smoke offers an even more concentrated citrus fragrance, and zippy sweet flavors that linger on the tongue. These sensations are an excellent introduction to the high that follows: the happy, cerebral energy of sativa layering over just the right amount of indica relaxation. Growers, too, benefit from a joyful paradox: the flowering time of 70 days is very brief for a sativa-dominant plant, and the yields, of at least 500 grams per square meter, are exceptionally high. Plants grow to a height of about one meter, with strong and substantial side braches able to support their big, dense flowers. With minimum THC levels of 25% and CBD at 1.8%, Tangerine Dream truly lives up to its name, and Barney’s Farm has made it real.

Everyone who has ever grown it says the same thing. In fact one person started a thread where the plant that came to life from the seed he received wasn't even cannabis. It's a legend.

Have heard many bad reviews on Tangerine Dream. But I've also had Tangerine Dream bud. The bud I had was some of the best
smoke I've ever had. Buds were rock hard, pungent and tasted amazing. The stone was one of the heaviest I've had. Super
potent.

Because there are stories from reputable folks indicating he enters the best weed he can find in Amsterdam into the cup and wins with it and then claims it as his own (IE: Not a single soul ever finding a good plant in a pack of Tangerine Dream yet it winning the cup).

Dunno whether the one I had was from Barney's (although probably not after what you just said), but it was
some of the best smoke I've ever had. Any other seed banks sell Tangerine Dream beans? I'd love to run this
on my next grow, but because of the bad reports of Barney's, I just don't wanna run it in case It's as bad
to grow as has been reported.

Chances are what you smoked was related to the Jack Herer lineage of plants, which includes Mango and Silver Haze. They all come from the same parents, just different mixes of them. The Mango and Silver Haze tend to have the fruitier flavors. Jack tends to be more peppery. You can find fruity smelling plants that are outstanding in any of these lines with some effort. Herer for example being more peppery might require you to make some F2's.

Super Lemon Haze is a Super Silver Haze hybrid. It will probably satisfy you IMO. There are plenty of alternatives however. Check out Sannies seeds. Anything you find there is going to be good. Cheap too.

I tried to grow a few TD's with the same experience. My pheno's had a lot of Silver Haze in them. They grew like champs. I let them flower for 12 or 14 weeks (it's in my journal A-51: multi-lights; multi-strains) and was ready to let them go longer but once I saw the structure I cut them down and made ice wax out of them. The hash was fantastic.

There is a fella in the hills of central CO who is a regular at one of the cabins on a particular pass during the winter months. He has a cut of the TD that is the real deal. Reminds my friends and I of the Old G13 we use to grow back in the late 80's and early 90's. I do not know how many beans one has to go through to find that pheno but it is out there. Med Scientist (a grower on here) claims to have a terrific TD pheno too.

As far as the Lib Haze comment I would have to disagree that it's junk. I have grown the Lib haze and though it wasn't as good as the write up it was pretty good. Solid colas. Great smell and crystals. Good smoke. But I didn't keep it in the rotation. The TD wasn't even close. There was a TD grow contest on here awhile back where several folks tried growing it and they all came to the same conclusion.

I currently have the LSD going and will probably keep it in the rotation for some time. It took a bit of pheno hunting but I found a good Indica that doesn't stretch much and produces some great colas (same journal). Most folks seem to be very happy with it.

I have followed OGEvilgenius's advice and bought some gear form Sannies. He is leading you in the right direction.

I know this is an old thread but, how did the Barney's vanilla kush turn out? I have one mother plant that looks outstanding that I am going to start cloning off of. My germination rate was poor, probably my fault, let them lay in my seed draw for almost a year.
