i have been eyeing the uv t5 tubes.... i run 6500k tubes on either side of my sodiums in the flower room and might be a good idea to swap a couple out for the uv. can you snap a pic of the uv tube lit alongside the others? also, i have heard that the uv bulbs should be shut off when you enter the room to do maintenance, are you going to bother with that practice?

i will take a pic tomorrow. lights are off right now so a pic of that probably wont do you much good, huh? i was told by (i need to research the name) on my first grow that he was using uvb and he had these pics with a real frosty look. i found these uva bulbs and my first grow was quite frosty as well. maybe it was luck too. there is a lot out there on why trich production increases with uv radiation and i was happy with the results i had. and i was being a dumb ass trying to see how the uva bulb looked in comparison to the 2700 and 10000 bulbs. looks dim but kind of hurts the eyes. i will not be oogling it again... here is a link to my greenhouse thai grow.(https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/659390-11-weeks-into-flowering-greenhouse-4.html) btw-i didn't notice any need to build up to 12 hours of the uv light. i'd read it was necessary but if you look hard enough, you can find an article saying what you want to hear.

took some pics this morning confirming that i have two females along with pics of the t5 10000k with uva light. in the 2nd pic, from left to right the color temps are 2700, 10000, 10000 with uva and 2700. the uva looks a lot more purple in the pic than in real life. i wore my sun glasses this time and it didn't feel as abusive to my eyes.

2 weeks into 12/12 flowering. seeing more pistils - good thing. seeing a weird thing on some leaves - bad thing. ca mag deficiency? i blasted them with some gobox nutes today including camg+. removed some under brush too. a little worried they are stretching too much too. wondering too if i should abandon my scrog attempt. i am afraid i am crowding the hell out of them by forcing them into the grid. maybe it is just a negative thought day for me...

did a bit of research on the strange leaves. it looks like i may have some mg deficiency caused by nute lockout. they looked worse this morning after watering them yesterday so i checked my ph on my straight water and it was 6.6. when i checked it after mixing the nutes it was 5.8. mixed in some wood ash from my fireplace and got it to 6.8. checked the runoff water ph and it was 6.3. i am guessing the 6.8 mixed with what i gave them yesterday and kind of evened it out. my last grow i didn't really have any ph issues but a)different strains and b)different time of year so my water is probably a bit different.

I never really measure run-off. It could mean alot of things. mainly, by the time the water gets to the bottom a good amount of the nutes get trapped/absobed into roots/medium so that can change it alot. I usually ph around 6.5-7 for all of growth. Which isnt too hard because my tap comes out at the lower side of 8 almost 7.9.

so after nutes im sittin at around 6-6.5 so a couple drops of ph up and im good. Dont even gotta ph it the second time.

but yes, that looks like a mag def and the curl could be from lock out like you said.

temp messes with ph as well. Colder, the lower, warmer, the higher. I think. Either way make sure youre not drawing cold water straight form the tap or somewhere cold or warm, then ph ing. Try to get it to room temp around 72 i think is best for ph testing. I remember seeing all this stuff about temps on teh back of a calibration solution bottle. How at different temps its more or less basic/acidic.

thanks for the confirmation. i let my water sit around for a couple days in my grow area before using it so it is room temp. the temp in my room is a little cool lately though so that could be why the ph issue has come about now.

very well could be. Along with your root zone being slightly colder coould be stuntin the plants ever so slightly. but thatd have to be a pretty big change for it to cause slow growth. hope you get it figured out. Best way ive discovered is to pre-treat your soil with dolomite lime. keeps your shit good all the way til the end. Some soils add it themselves, but most soils are meant for potted containers and not weed so the expected dosage/ph fluctuation is off of what we do with the plants.

i am using roots organix soil. it drains very well. the roots are probably getting cooler too. the thing is the growth is not stunted. both plants are stretching a lot. so maybe it isn't lockout??? i'd prefer not to have to spray any pesticides/fungicides on these...

the flowers are going along nicely, more hairs every day.

probably just need more cal/mag than. i heard cali magic is supposed to be good and a fair price. Ive used botanicare and bpn cal mag and they all work well. Just dont over do it! haha.

Some strains really start hogging one nute over another in flower. My grape god was a P whore. Not a heavy feeder so it was hard to diagnose because i was giving her too much at first which caused her to flip out and then i was giving her enough of everything but lacking p so i was confused. finally nailed it down and supplemented with a lil extra bloom nute. The hog i grow now needs a fair bit of N. More than my usual amount.

either calcium or magnesium is very key for chlorophyll specifically so the second it goes missing you see that instant chlorosis and its drastic. Not like the slow fade of N deficiency.

that is interesting because it did seem to just pop up rather suddenly. this gobox stuff i am using is a quasi-vegan/organic series of liquids that has one bottle that is ca/mg. i have only been giving them nutes once a week so maybe i am being a lousy parent and not feeding the girls enough, especially if their needs have changed. makes a lot of sense though. i think i lucked out on my last grow which was also my first. aside from a self created disaster, the grow was pretty easy. no bumps in the road at all. i learned a lot but there is plenty more to learn. thanks for the input budbro. btw-using my magnifier, i am starting to see some little trichs. smiley face emoticon with stoned looking eyes smoking a fatty!

gave another feeding and watered with nearly a half gallon per plant after giving them a good gallon each yesterday. it has been dry here though and i have a dehumidifier going in my grow room to dehumidify(obviously) and to boost a little heat in the room. plants seem happy... pics tomorrow as the flowers are forming nicely.

getting pretty crowded. the plant on the left has more flowering going on. though to swap sides with the screen though. they have seemed like 2 totally different phenos or genos from pretty early on so it may have nothing to do with where they are in the tent. i have been supercropping some of the taller stems. any scrog growers - i am 2 weeks and 3 days into 12/12 flowering. i didn't see any flowers until last week. is it too late to do more thinning out under the canopy? is it acceptable to supercrop and scrog? being my first scrog attmept, i didn't think it would be a work of art like some i have seen on other posts but i think i may have veged too long as these 2 plants are filling in a bit too much i think. getting lots of flowers though. i don't see any new evidence of mg deficiency. the new growth is looking nice. i have added nutes 2 days in a row. if i water tomorrow, i think i will just ph the water and maybe give it a little molasses(well, ph it after the molasses as it seems molasses is pretty acidic). i think my water has changed from last winter/spring as after adding my nutes it is 5.8 or so. last winter it was 6.4-ish. probably why i had the shitty looking leaves. may move the lights down a bit later today to try to minimize stretch. need to be sure the supercropped stems stay down though. not really any trichs yet. though i saw some very short ones the other day but i think that was wishful thinking. the temp is getting a bit warm too but it has been warmer here than normal or than last week too. plants still seem pretty happy so onward and upward!

i lied. i gave ph'd water and nutes again today as i am going out of town for a few days and i don't want to burden my son with the mixing crap. i have enough ph'd water for him to give the girls a drink the next few days. did some trimmage of the crap under the canopy.

3 weeks into 12/12. starting to see more trichomes. heat and humidity in the tent seems to be a little weird. it is cold outside which usually makes the grow room cold and raises the humidity. not so now. hot and dry(77+ deg and 38% rh). the plants seem to like it though. super cropping now to keep the canopy in check. lowered the lights a bit to try to stave off the stretch that is still going on. very little head room now. they are taking all the nutes i throw at them. no more leaf weirdness since i started ph'ing the water.

realized i had 2 10000 kelvin bulbs in my t5 fixture(1 regular and 1 with uva). swapped in another 'bloom' t5 which for some reason i thought and have been posting was 2700 kelvin but is actually 3000 kelvin. what is a few hundred kelvins between friends though?morning temp in the tent just after the lights came on was 71.6 with 48% rh. temps last night outside got below 20 f. i had the dehumidifier off as the rh was under 30. going to be a balancing act for the next month and a half...

Yeah, winter is always a bitch! Sucks to have a humidity problem but ive found little side effects from low humidity. Plants may be a little crispy on the outside but they grow about the same as long as your temps are on point. You have to water a little more but thats nothin crazy.

i see you are going led, budbro-ski. the people at the grow store i went to last year discouraged me from going in that direction, well, that and the mucho denairos but i will be curious to see how it works out. i know they are making advances in led's and their energy consumption and heat output make them quite interesting. i don't have any plans on upgrading at this time since the state is supposed to allow the opening of dispensaries starting in 2014 and that will make me growing against the law again...
